Which is why if you keep very matter-of-fact about it, it won't be stirred up. Put it on the list of things to do like......

    Buy potatoes
    Send off Xmas cards
    Hoover bedrooms
    Return money
    Put washing on line
    Pay newspaper bill.

  • and if it were me, I would also be conflicted about slightly wanting the money but wanting to refuse it at the same time, and worried about 'am I cutting off my nose to spite my face?'

Write a really horrid letter to the donor, telling him exactly what you think about him for his manipulative gift, sleep on it, and then burn it (the letter!) and see how you feel.

If the money had come with a note saying that it was an unconditional gift with no obligation expected, I would agree with you.

However, it was delivered 'anonymously' and then steps taken to ensure Elsien knew who had sent it. That means that the person is trying to create a feeling of obligation in Elsien., and what will follow could quite possibly be.."See, I gave her all that money, she accepted it and she still refuses to see me."
And that really will stir things up again.

  • I would give yourself 24 hours to think, elsien. You don't have to respond immediately. Try writing a letter as JM said and see how you feel then. Wait until the shock has worn off a bit and then maybe think how the money makes you feel-angry? beholding? frustrated? even having thoughts about what you could spend it on? There is no right or wrong response. Evaluate your feelings and work from there and do what feels most satisfying/comforting/relieving.

Thanks all for the thoughts, as you say no need for any instant decisions.

And in a complete change of subject, has anyone seen the new hobbit film? My mother has bribed me to accompany her with the offer of tea first, and I need to know if it's any good before deciding which pudding to demand. :D

    Howdy-doody!

Haven't seen the film, but have heard the CGI is amazing!
I'd be more than happy to go and see it!

  • I've known a few people see the Hobbit film, and they all said it was great Elsien :) Might help distract you a little as well.

WaS, agree with the post linking MIND to the articles. When I was little, one of the mums at my dance class had schizophrenia, and she said we were the only people that accepted her and that people had said she shouldn't be a mum and would hurt her kids. That really upset us all as she was absolutely lovely and totally upfront about her meds in case we needed to give her extra of any of them :-(

If it helps I could take the money off your hands :rotfl:
  • Oooo yes, I meant to say that I agree with the Mind suggestion. IIRC they actually give an award for bad MH reporting! :D

Ok, ready for a super-aaaaah! moment?

Mother panda gets reunited with her triplets for first time!

(They get taken away because ma pandas only rear one and abandon others in the wild, and they wanted to ensure that all three survived!
It looks like they may have let her look after one at a time, rotating them! This was the first time she had all three together!)
