It is Escitalopram, oyster. It is a version of Citalopram which is one of the most common anti-depressants but it doesn't have the chemical carriers which often cause the side-effects, its as much pure serotonin as they can get. I found it was the carriers that were causing me the problem as quite a few people find, without those I get no side effects at all. The only other one I can take is Seroxat which I took for so long that I became tolerant and now it has no effect at all. I tried 5 others and side effects were horrendous.

Big hugs, Secret Rooster will have a happy life and always remember you. Enjoy having your lovely son home!

Aw, I am glad that you got to exchange gifts at least, seeing Beau in January will give you something to look forward to!

Have you tried a different antidepressant? I take the one especially for people who can't take the others. Doctors don't offer it until they have no choice because it is expensive but it is worth telling your GP if you are getting bad side effects and they will suggest it eventually. I agree with you that with the Christmas chaos in the shops you really do need it now, I can't imagine how tiring it must be.
I need to mention it to my doctor when i next see her.

i've been on 4 different ones so far this seems to be the best tolerated (side effects aside). Its really annoying becasue my gp is reluctant to change my meds without a psych imput, yet i can;t seem to get a re-referall to a psych

Not that I ever met her, but in our area there is a mh nurse that is able to prescribe mh medication. I think my GP may have spoken to her rather than an actual mh doctor reagrding my medication. Maybe you could ask your GP if there is similar in your area?

    I love

  • I really hope your doctor will consider Escitalopram, oyster. They never offer it as a first choice but other than Seroxat it is the only one that gives me no side effects at all. I tried ordinary Citalopram and couldn't stay awake, nevermind the dry mouth and headaches. Now I don't even know I am taking anything, it has been a tiny miracle for me. I was also told never to lose the pills because they cost £5 a time and that was 9 years ago!

  • I tried ordinary Citalopram and couldn't stay awake,

That's interesting I take that and am so tired all the time chance to sleep would be good but that's another issue! I did go to the docs about the tiredness and was given a blood test for vit d levels which were fine. No mention it could be linked to the drug. I don't suffer from any other side effects so suppose will have to live with it I am happy on this one the previous one I was precribed was awful can't remember the name something beginning with m? Taking that was like I wasn't me it was like I was in a bubble and everything was going on around me but I wasn't involved in it. I stopped taking it which is never a good idea and it took me ages to go back to ask for another type in case the same thing happened. I will take tiredness over the risk of changing to something like that again.

Need to put a disclaimer in re prescribed tablets if you are given one that doesn't suit please go back straight away do not stop taking it before you have spoken to a doctor. I have done this and know from personal experience it really isn't the way.

Sorry for so many separate posts for some reason mse isn't letting me edit.
