    Thanks for the advice.

I'm not convinced there is something further wrong but the treatments they are giving me are not working and they just seem to fob me off all the time.

According to the literature I've read, they should at least have sent me for an MRI because I'm under 40. They haven't done that. I asked for a referral to a specialist and they said no. I asked for some help managing the weight gain and they told me that "fat people often blame their medication for weight gain".

I'm writing it all down. I think I'll make an appointment, take DH with me and present them with this document. If nothing else it will save them digging around in my notes. They don't seem to read them before seeing patients.

No, you have to direct them to things. No one will know your file like you. No one can, I think its fair to say.

With weight gain stuff for example I refer them to dates specially when this has not been the case. I always take fir with me to consultations for two reasons, one is 'back up', the other is memory. I also record my consultations. :o because too often have one hing be said that's been 'forgotten' or denied. ( I do real use how paranoid that sounds, and if I did not have my level headed DH there with me I'd feel like an utter nut to say it) .

Those of us with any type of chronic condition should be keeping our own files with all letters/ results , research etc in it IMO, and indexing for quick reference in appointments .

Thanks lir. I always feel like I'm being paranoid about it, so maybe having DH there will be helpful.

  • I'm sure all surgeries should help people with their weight. It might be worth asking if the nurses do this. I know ours do and they can prescrible the medication too.

Husband is having dreadful problems getting an MRI , two GP referalls and the hospital keep refusing!! He's been referred to a consultant in the hope he can succeed in referring. It's not simple in this age of cutbacks :(

  • Recovery Letter -

    Dear You

This is something that my counsellor once advised me to do. I set myself goals. Just normal things such as cooking a basic meal or doing some washing. The hardest thing for me is staying in the house during the day on my own so I repeatedly do these things until they become easier and I can cross them off the list.

I still feel anxious and depressed but I do know that although I don't always feel it, I am improving. The main issue which made me unwell is pretty well over but I know that it will probably take a long time before I am well but I do accept that it took months to become unwell so it will not magically disappear. So for now I will keep plodding on and I do believe I will eventually feel it fully.

I wish you well in your own recovery.

    A friend

Ok, as it's the 3 December, I shall sample the panetonne. Let me wait til the dog walker has gone, find a suitably crappy Christmas movie and I shall begin.

That sounds like a lovely afternoon Code... room for a little one?? :)

I completely agree with LIR's wise words about keeping your own records. I found the only way to get referred to the right people, get sent appointments etc was to be the annoying person that's always phoning/chasing things up. I'm not sure we should have to do this, but it does seem to the base with chronic illnesses.... noisy wheels get the oil and all that.

I have some Christmas music on at work. It is cheering me up enormously.

Hmmm, it's weird. I keep thinking it's not all that great. But then I can't stop eating it.

Oh my god, is this stuff filled with crack or something?

    On a less Christmassy note:

Why do we ignore the mental health aspects of crime?
