Thanks WaS I will tell Harry that you're thinking of him, you're so kind & helpful! His voices get set off with death as well. I was telling him about you thinking that it's your fault .... It's not! He said that if he hears of a death the voices say that it's his brother who's dead not the person who's really died. I believe that his voices began when our Dad died. Now, his biggest fear is that his brother will die, & then the voices will kill him for all the terrible things that he's done, although he's done nothing.

Hope all goes well today, thinking of you!

You could even be sitting with MIL now, allowing for appointments, panic and travel. I wonder if you are peeping out of your blanket yet.

I did it! I did it! It wasn't without trauma, on the way to MIL's i ended up lying down in the back of the car with the blanket fully over me so people couldn't see me through the windows (you can laugh, even WaSp did, he said if the police stop him they'll think he's got a body in the back!).

It was WONDERFUL to see MIL! She held my hand the whole time and fussed over me terribly, the cups of tea were endless and WaSp kept being sent to the kitchen to make sandwiches and fetch slices of cake and sweets for me. We even had half of glass of wine each. She loved the pumpkin pie and said I must make another for her!

We had a long chat about her health which was a little sad, she really is quite unwell but it is due to age rather any fixable problem. It upset me a little to see her, she looks so small and frail. She is still very much MIL though, and WaSp got told off for going outside for one of his two cigarettes of the day and was told if I can give up smoking then he should too or it isn't fair on me!

She loved her gifts and put her dressing gown on there and then over her clothes. She then got me to take her to the kitchen and started unpacking things. BIL got her a lot of items for the disabled which she has never been able to use. I now have a food processor made especially for people with arthritis, a floor lamp with a magnifier, toast tongs and an electronic can opener, These have all only been used once when she realised that they were impossible and/or dangerous to use. We tried to give her money for them but she said that she would be very insulted if we didn't think she was worth accepting gifts from just because she is old so we shut up! She then laughed a lot, she still has her sense of humour. Sweetest of all she gave me a charm bracelet that she has had since her early 20's, made me cry.

I also helped her write her Christmas cards, basically by putting my hand where she should write so that she could feel it and then sign underneath it. Somehow she kept missing with the pen accidentally-on purpose and drawing flowers all over my hand instead. WaSp wondered why we were giggling so much!

We both had a lovely time! Thank you so much everyone here for supporting me to do this, it was so worth it.

  • That's wonderful. You could not have made your MiL any happier what a lovely birthday surprise for her and a great way to spend your day too! :)

You should be very proud of yourself :j:j:j
Hope WaSp enjoyed his day too with his two favourite ladies.

  • Aww, thank you! It was so lovely and we get on just like we only saw each other yesterday. She was more worried about my health than she was her own! We laughed an awful lot, sadly for WaSp at him sometimes but he took it well. She thanked me again for staying with him and said that he is the only child that she doesn't worry about because he has me. It was nice to think that despite WaSp doing so much for me that MIL thinks that I help him, too.

Honestly, putting bias to one side she truly is such a kind and funny lady.
