Hello Duke! I adore Chucky! And Bride of Chucky! I have always wanted one of the dolls!

Argh, sudden expense! WaSp's computer chair has completely broken, the wood has snapped which is understandable as its 15 years old. He now has a new comfy chair and I have a credit card bill. We had no choice because we only have the sofa and his chair, we don't even have kitchen chairs and he has arthritic problems so sitting on a cheap stool wouldn't work. At least he is sorted out now but we could have done without it.

I had an impulse purchase today, completely unnecessary but at least it was half price. It is an amaryllis bulb flowering kit. I am highly amused that m and s have out on the instructions: Plant bulb pointed side up.

(Does WaSp's chair say: Park bottom in the flat seat area?)

  • Hahahaha! It should do, whitewing! Approved Food boxes always make me laugh because they have "Don't look at my bottom!" printed on the under side.

I love amaryllis! I would have bought it, too. I had one that flowered for years until my cats decided that it made a very good toy.

I won't take up any of your Dr Who watching time, but it's good that you can be watching more films etc lately.

I was wondering, Duke, if Harry (or any lurkers etc) also have a tendency to stop watching TV. Are there programmes that need to be avoided?

I realise that it is probably specific to the individual. I wondered if there are any trends or patterns that could be part of someone's 'being aware there is beginning to be a decline' plan.

I would imagine that different triggers would affect different people depending on the path their psychosis takes. I am fine with fantasy because I can't relate to it personally. But something like drama or soap operas are huge triggers because I put myself in the position of every day occurrences that happen to the characters and then I get confused about whether it has really happened or not, and whether to me or someone else. I can remember a character on Brookside cheating on his wife and by the time WaSp got home I was hysterical and screaming at him that I knew he had cheated on me.

Nowadays, my psychosis isn't focused on aliens or horror, it is on real life situations but I have known people with psychosis who are very triggered by the thought of aliens and demons. I only have a tiny bit of that when I sometimes imagine radio waves or telepathy, although I do remember being very ill once and almost convinced that I was repeatedly abducted by aliens. That wasn't triggered by tv. it was simply caused by a friend telling me that she dreamt of aliens. In no time at all I was convinced that she was being abducted as a way for them to get at me and I was putting her in danger. So it can happen but I have to be in a very bad way.

Psychosis manifests itself in the form of the individuals worse thoughts and fears, mine are people hating me and spying on me along with thinking that I hurt/kill people so it almost always takes that path. I can watch Doctor Who for example with almost no triggers, although regenerations devastate me because it feels like a death and then I do get confused. Any kind of crime show with people dying is completely out of the question, it makes me feel as if someone in real life has died and I have caused it, equally I never, ever watch the news or any documentary other than animals.

Things like Harry Potter are fine although Snape's death wasn't too great, fantasy and unrealistic horror tend to be fine, although The Blair Witch Project wasn't because of how it was filmed and the people were made too believable for me. The Conjuring last night was no problem at all because it didn't have anything real enough for me to latch onto.

Funny story- I once watched a documentary talking about how the royal family used to hide away the members with mental illness in insane asylums and forget about them. Guess who spent 2 weeks convinced that she was royalty and tried to trace her family tree to prove it, along with looking for physical similarities? Even WaSp watching the Grand Prix isn't safe, he had to strongly talk me out of booking a ticket to Italy to help a stricken driver after I saw the medic car arrive and somehow convinced myself that I was supposed to be on it and the man would die because I wasn't there. WaSp now watches it on the computer if I am awake so that I can't see it. Sadly, there are quite a few examples like that from my days of trying to watch tv.

That's very interesting, WaS. For you, can the trigger be instant?

For me, with the depression, I tend to find that I start to notice (or be 'addicted to') more and more reports or programmes and it is only when my 'triggery' things and real-life instances become close together and increase in quantity that I lose my perspective.

We've planted the amaryllis so I am looking forward to seeing that sprout.

We've also had a massive tidy up as the house was a tip.

I've pulled all DD's clothes out of her room and when DH gets home we will go through them to see what she has outgrown or what won't be suitable for next summer. It is so much easier to keep the house in order (and us relaxed) if we declutter little and often. It'll also mean we can identify of there is anything she wants for Christmas, clothes-wise, as some family members don't like to 'waste money' on toys.

DH is cooking Chinese for tea tonight so I am looking forward to that. Mmmm.Mmmm.

Hi all, am dipping in & out, unable to concentrate, so lurking a bit, hope y'all well :D

I don't want much in life WaS, but I'd love the Chucky dolls, or Edward Scissorhands. Unfortunately, I don't have anywhere to put them, living in a small flat ....

whitewing, I'm not really sure about Harry's TV watching & the voices as he doesn't volunteer much information. I've said for him to watch TV ... to block them but he says it makes them worse, & that he can no longer watch TV in peace as they comment on everything he's watching. Even an advert with kids in it, so I'm thinking maybe anything to do with kids triggers it for him as the voices will call him a perve. I think it can just be the noise of the TV, radio, or someone's voice, as he can't hear what the voices are saying if anything's too loud. Me & my Mom were laughing loudly yesterday & he told us to shut up. I said that we were only having fun .... Harry said that it set off his voices & once he had them they'd be there all day & it was agony for him :''-( I'll ask him.
