I knitted Steff's last jumper, just made it up as I went along and kept trying it against her so it wasn't perfect but was lovely and warm especially for her last couple of weeks when she was sleeping more.

Pyxis, was your fire check on of those free ones that the local fire brigade do? I've been contemplating one of those, if they still do them in this area.

However many people I might dupe into believing I am easy going, if I try to knit there is no fooling anyone. My mother has tried to teach me a few times. It turns out I am so tense I turn a ball of wool into solid felt, too heavy to even use for clothes making. My square gets so tight the needles cannot move.
    :D

    Every single time.

    Yes! It was free!

And the smoke alarm they fitted was free too! Even though I already had four!

Just checked the website and it says
"Home Fire Safety Checks are offered free of charge and are targeted at the more vulnerable groups in the community. This would include the elderly, people living alone and those with reduced mobility or other issues."
Not sure why living alone would make me vulnerable and I'm out on all the other counts. Would it be very bad to pretend I have limited mobility so I can get them to practice their fireman's lifts?;)
