WaS - even if they do come in, which is by no means a given (not only do parties come up with all sorts of silly pre-election vote winning "policies" that never actually happen, the tories have to win the next election first), they're planned for people with addiction problems like drink and drugs who are supposedly spending their money on anything but essentials.
So unless you've been having all sorts of fun you haven't told us about yet, it won't be applying to you. Aside from which, people still have to pay rent, utilities bills, clothing etc, so there would have to be some online function to allow people to do this. And there are also hurdles to overcome as to the legality of any such scheme.
Without wanting to go political on this thread I shall refrain from my soapbox and just say take it all with a pinch of salt.

(And if you do have any "destructive habits", stop it this instant, you're clearly having far too much fun! Does advanced food lorry loads of chocolate count, I wonder?- They are definitely an essential in my book. How is chocolate mountain getting on?)
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Aw, thank you both, what you said is very true. I had a sudden panic that internet wouldn't be one of the expenses as well, to say removing that would have a negative effect on me is an understatement, it is my contact with the world. But I won't panic now, there are a lot of variables that could change (I just have to remind myself of that).

No destructive habits here! Unless e-cigs count? I very rarely drink alcohol these days, and by rarely I mean a small glass on my birthday and at Christmas. This isn't by choice I hasten to add, my medication makes me totally skip tipsy and heads straight for awful hangover. It is pointless trying to drink anymore, it makes me too ill with none of the fun. Drugs, well I have 3 plastic bags full of those, nothing fun though unfortunately, although a few anti-psychotics could be a good remedy for insomnia?

The chocolate mountain is down to 20 bars! That is almost emergency level...

No, Internet connection is unlikely to be deemed one of those anyway.

Its seen as important to get as many people on line as possible to increase communication and access to employability and ability to do as much on line as possible. :).

I don't think it will happen WaS. It would be a huge administrative and IT headache and they'd need retailers to sign up to up and it would be party to legal challenges because of the stigma. Plus, it wouldn't be any use anyway because the people targeted would find ways around it.

I think we should get chocolate on prescription though.

I should think an agoraphobic would be able to demonstrate that internet access is essential to them.

WaS, worry about benefit cards if and when they happen for you. They'll be piloted first anyway. A big process before it even begins to affect you.

You would be notified in good time personally if it did affect you. We would help you understand the letter, and raise any issues. It would not have to go behind your cushion.

Ha! Good thinking ahead there, whitewing. That kind of letter would be buried so fast you wouldn't see it for dust. I could handle most of it but I can't lose the internet, other than seeing WaSp I would be completely isolated, not even able to talk to my friend in America or my teacher friend or talk to everyone here. I can't use the phone so I couldn't even email my doctors if I needed advice. It is honestly my worse nightmare come true. Hopefully it won't happen or if it did then hopefully someone would think of people like me. There are a lot of us who would be lost without being able to connect to the world online.

WaS, I would pay your internet access if it ever got to a point where you wouldn't have it and we couldn't sort it out for you by other means.

ETA: I'd expect a free, signed copy of your book in return, lol.

  • Aw! What a lovely thing to say! I could never accept that but I am really touched, whitewing. I might need a little cry now.

    :D Um, I expect one anyway! :D

I doubt that card thing will be implemented except, say for addicts/alcoholics, and even if it were to be, there would be dozens of exceptions and you would be one of them! For certain!

Well you just got my vote. Codemonkey for prime minister. All we need now is your party name. _party_

Edit - no ipad Pyxis, so I'll have to have a play with photobucket and see what happens.
