I'm going to remove the bit in my post about that, now
PS Not Verdi either. And I confess I didn't know he'd ever used one, although I suppose I could have guessed that given his fondness for on and offstage bands!
Vocal training......;) trainers with equal liking for oddments I guess. I'm not actually very good at the obscure instruments but DH is, he'd love a collection, lol.0 -

Its a shame modern pianos aren't as pretty as the old ones really, especially as our homes tend to be smaller and their importance as furniture is greater!(I just lurve spiders!)

Thank you, LiR. I have edited my post so it's vaguer, now
The Heckelphone* opera is Salome, although Solarjunkie is correct, there's also one in Elektra.
No-one has the ophicleide opera yet, though! (Wiki doesn't mention it, although it does have some clues that would point you in the right direction.) if it helps, the opera has lots of set ballets in it.
*Heckelphone should always be spelt with a capital H, despite what you may read on tinternet, as it was named after Herr Heckel who invented it. (I have no idea why saxophones don't follow this rule.)Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
Huh! I'll have you know mine is very pretty! Albeit sleek and simple satin walnut. Although, thinking about it, does it class as 'modern', being all of, gulp, 40 years old this year! And I've had it from new!
Teehee, sorry, please extend my apologies to your piano. No offence was meant to it.
The worry over mine comes up when ever I visit my parent and the question is raised because my parent doesn't want it given away or 'sold' but cannot house it forever themself.
We , found in rates and I had a 1970s piano in our bedroom for a while and used to play to each other sometimes at night. It was quite romantic really. But it was an ugly piano, and i didn't like it much. It sounded ok but soulless.0 -

We have an Adolphe Sax made sax ( think but not sure that's sax jr, I might be wrong) Its fir's tenor. They became selmers iirc ( its not really my field of interest). Most of dh's horns are vintage, but the Sax Sax is pretty special because you think how close you are to the origin of the sound.0 -
I have a piano, left to me by my grandmother which has recently taken up residence. I played years ago and would like to start again, but I'm not sure this one is salvageable. According to my gran, it was never played in the 60 odd years she had it. And it was only a cheap one to start with.
But it holds all sorts of memories so I don't know what I'd do if it wasn't fixable. I want to play, but I don't want to get rid of this one, it reminds me so much of her. (Hiding from daleks, anyone?) I suppose I should get someone out for a look, but then I'd have to make a decision.:(All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

JM is it Wagner? (Flying Dutchman?)
Or, grasping at straws and thinking of ballet pieces, Orpheus in the Underworld?
Or Midsummer Night's Dream?(I just lurve spiders!)

Well, you never know.
Mine is fixable, I just don't see the worth in it. I am not sentimental and there are bad memories as well as good with mine. To restring mine would strip out what I love about it, and I couldn't bear it more to live with it feeling it was a taxidermy of the original IYSWIM, but if its a cherished piece of furniture, then it might be worth the cost if its salvageable for you.
What are the problems with it, do the keys make sounds? Do they stick? Have you looked in side to see if strings are broken or if hammers are damaged?
If its only in tune with its self would it bother you? Do you plan to play with others? With my old piano when we had musicians gathering we used to tune other things out to play all in tune with the piano......quite funny, but most pianists I know would choose a piano over keyboards...not all, but most.0 -
It makes a noise. Noise being the operative word. Pedals move but don't do anything. It sounds very echoey. Never looked inside as I half expect a mouse family to peer back at me. Fine it being in tune with itself, I just want to plink around and have some fun.
And living in a mid terrace, I'm sure the neighbours will be overjoyed! All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
