Last night as we drove home there was a huge red setting sun. Beautiful.

A free magazine was posted through our letterbox this morning with a lovely picture of blackberries in the wild. Mmmm. Blackberry crumble.

I love to see the mist in the fields in the early morning with just the hedges peeping through.

DH often sees a hare in the farm entrance as he drives to work.

Little school children in shiny new uniforms clutching mummy or daddy's hands as they walk to school.

Lots to be excited about at this time of year.

I am taking DD for a trial self-defence lesson later in the week. Not that she needs the self defence element at the moment - it is more for the self confidence, physical activity and the self discipline that is associated with martial arts. DH loves all the Japanese and Chinese films because of the beauty of the martial arts.

DH thinks she is too young but I think it will spark her interest. She likes clear structure and routine - basically she likes to know what rules she is breaking! (Family trait).

Talking of hares, does anyone remember a treasure hunt thing called "Masquerade", where you had to solve clues in the book to find a golden hare buried somewhere?

I bought the book. Must still have it.

It was a long time ago, possibly in the eighties?
I feel a google coming on!.........

This was the prize....18ct gold, set with jewels.

This is the link, if you want to read about it.

It really was a fabulous idea, so original. The hare was found in 1982, but in 1988 it was thought to have been found fraudulently, which devastated the author.

Hope you and WaSp are ok, WaS?

Kit Williams is quite a remarkable artist IMO. His actual pictorial art is not so much to my taste but I remain fascinated and in awe of his process. I love the clock in Cheltenham, I used to stand under it quite often, its a think of wonder, and the hare is beautiful.

OMG! OMG! Just googled the clock.....the Wishing Fish clock! Had never heard of it before!
    It's fantastic! It blows bubbles!
    Thanks for that LIR!

WaS when you read this, you must have a look at the youtube video of it!

No chance! Not on this thread!

Reminded me of the 'collapsing clock' I saw in Newport several years ago. It was a large archway, which, on the hour, would 'collapse', and open up, revealing various mechanical figures doing things, and a large cuckoo. It would perform for a few minutes and then fold itself back up into an arch again.

It was wonderful! The video I found on google doesn't do it justice, though. I took loads of photos, but they're buried in the pit!

Apparently, it ran into mechanical problems and was dismantled. Shame, as it could have been a real tourist draw. I thought it was incredible, and went to watch it several times over the weekend I was there! (But then, I love clocks and automata, so was in heaven!)
