Oh, not an off-colour joke at all, JM! Your Approved Food purchases will out you!
It is something I worry about myself, though because I tend to get through with black humour towards myself a lot of the time as does WaSp. There are frequent references here to what a nutter and looney I am (WaSp is inclined to make me jump out of my skin by creeping up behind me and saying "Cookoo!" in my ear) and frequent mention of men in white coats, usually by me. I frequently yell "I'm mentally ill!" at WaSp when required do something I can't be bothered with (and hope WaSp will do) and he yells back "So? I'm a slave!" It works for us.
I don't mean any harm by it and certainly would never dream of using those expressions when referring to anyone else but it's a coping strategy, it is far easier for me to do that than be depressed and serious about my diagnosis all of the time.
Having said that one of my pet hates with words is the misuse of psychotic. I have read so many times on forums where instead of saying someone is psychopathic people say psychotic instead. I cringe everytime because they really aren't the same thing at all. There are posts all over the web from me correcting people.
To a lesser extent the Schizophrenia is a split personality one gets to me as well. They again, are two entirely separate conditions that are vastly different, I have both, I know this. Sadly up until about 10 years ago there were still some old school mental health professionals who believed them to be the same thing, too. The easiest way I can define them to people is Schizophrenia- disembodied voices come from outside your head as if you are hearing them through your ears. MPD- voices are heard inside your head like a memory and the people who speak have clear appearances that you can see in your mind. The biggest difference is that Schizophrenia is a mental illness and biochemical, MPD is an extreme childhood coping strategy and not biochemical, but PTSD related.

I've sussed you out now WaS, you're one of those women who just has to have everything
One thing I have noticed is that all the regular posters on this thread seem to have a sense of humour (it has been said that its the only sense I've got)

Hahahahaha! I have to have double everything dibuzz, with strawberry knobs on!
We do all have a sense of humour which is a huge relief to me because I probably spend more time laughing and joking than anything else. I can be serious when needed but after 30 years of dealing with mental illness if I couldn't laugh at it at this point I wouldn't still be here! (and some parts actually are funny!).
Cute little MPD moment for everyone. When I just typed that some parts are actually funny a little voice piped up "Am I funny?" I had forgotten that sometimes I refer to the others as 'parts' of me. Yes Lucee, you are very funny although I am not sure that you should be reading what I am writing!Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

I often say this thread makes me more compassionate. Last week, I was out with DH on 3 separate occasions when people started telling me quite personal things. There are some brave people out there, coping with a lot of things. I got into the car after the most recent conversation, feeling pleased that I have helped to brighten someone's day. As I got in, DH said, 'You're like a magnet for weirdos..'
It was the end of a long week and he was tired, but he was grinning too, so he didn't really mind.
(and they weren't weird, either. I just seem to be more approachable at the moment).:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

That's lovely, whitewing there must be something about you that is making people feel comfortable to confide in you. I am sure you brightened their day by listening.

I totally agree - I think it's all to do with auras and you are obviously exuding approachability and love xxxx
OMG are we allowed to turn the letters round? I didn't know that!Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
Yes, JM! We can put the letters in any order at all! All we have to do is change one of them.
I am covered in children's tattoos. I bought 20 packets of chews for £1 in my food order and had no idea that they came with them (honest!). My arms are covered. WaSp of course had to be different and put one in the middle of his forehead...Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France
