  • And me! In times of yore I used to go to all the big instrument auctions. Have tried several Strads (despite the fact I don't actually play the violin :o )

One auction house actually let me have an instrument on a month's trial. I was dead serious, bid up to the end, but stopped when I intended (and spent £2000 more on another instrument by the same maker, which I liked more).

I also bought my bow at auction. A friend was trying some out at the weekend, of very slightly better provenance, and I was shocked that he was thinking of spending up to £18k..............

I am covered in children's tattoos. I bought 20 packets of chews for £1 in my food order and had no idea that they came with them (honest!). My arms are covered. WaSp of course had to be different and put one in the middle of his forehead...

This week's Doctor Who having its effect? (It was about RH, for those who don't watch it.)

Yes, either RH or all that talk about Will S. Sounds more like RH though!

BTW, he was a bit of all right, that RH, wasn't he?

Sorry! It's those ancient keyboards - sent me quite frisky!):D

Robin Hood was lovely! Doctor Who is currently the only programme that is on that I manage to watch, largely because I grew up with it so it is in the 'harmless' category for me. I rather like Peter Capaldi, he isn't as tough as he makes himself out to be, did you notice how he touched his cheek after Marion kissed him? (Yes, I psychoanalyse Doctor Who, too).

As weird as this sounds sci-fi and horror don't trigger me at all, or even scare me much. By the time I was 9 I was reading my dad's adult sci-fi and horror books so grew up with those, too. Anything based on real life is a potential trigger but the more fantastic it gets the more I am fine. I could happily watch The Exorcist but probably wouldn't manage two minutes of Coronation Street, although I stick mainly to children's films now as even the fantasy genre there is a lot of human emotional suffering (you should see me everytime Doctor Who regenerates, I cry like a baby and I am upset for days. I still watch it, though). I wish I could read again, I miss my heap of Arthur C. Clarke and Stephen King books.

Sorry for disappearing - i am back did you miss me ??? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Fun and games here....

Max my gorgeous by has sore ears again, still got sore toes and skin and.... a willy infection....(tmi? :rotfl:) Bless his heart lots of mummy cuddles and a trip to the vet... now got antibiotics as well as the steriods and a shampoo for his poorly feet. Whilst wanting extra cuddles and being a little lethargic he is generally fine and quite happy to milk it for all its worth on the cuddle front. Have to speak to vet fri and may do some allergy testing if not improving. Bless his heart...

Of course little one has come out in sympathy! She has her very back teeth coming through and already been to the doctors the dr and i were both convinced another ear infection as she has been pulling at them so much but no just red from the teething... although yesterday and today she has been worse so we will see how she is tomorrow.

I am feeling really stressed lately and finding it hard to switch off or to let things go even the smallest of niggles i just cannot seem to let be... so got an appointment with dr tomorrow. any tips on switchiing off and letting things go appreciated....

    Loving the game....Hart= tart

Hahahahaha, you would think so, JM! Doctor Who is something that I am familiar enough with not to upset me (other than regeneration scenes which totally mess me up and are a very definite trigger). I have found that things I watched or read before I became ill are still fine, I suppose because I have a memory of not being bothered by them to feel safe within? Not sure really, I should ponder it more.

Hello haybel! We missed you! You poor thing, you have really been through it lately. I am not surprised that you feel unable to switch off and are anxious! Big hugs.

Is there anything that you can immerse yourself in? Reading or a film? I don't know if you have ever tried thought stopping techniques but I use them a lot. When you have thoughts going round and round try shouting Stop! Out loud if necessary then distract yourself. Another technique I use is throwing the thoughts out into the universe, literally seeing them as parcels on string which I throw in the air and watch float away in my mind. Slamming a visualised wall down inbetween you and thoughts can also help. A final one is giving yourself permission to be anxious for a short period. Say, once an hour giving yourself 10 minutes to sit down and do nothing but think. Don't do anything else during this time, just let yourself feel everything. After 10 minutes use one of the stopping techniques and if the thoughts come back tell yourself that you can go back to them in an hours time but not until then. All of these do take practice but I find them to be quite effective.

I LOVE the Foundation trilogy, Pyxis! I read my dad's copies when I was 13 and was completely enthralled. Another reason I think Sci-fi and horror aren't a trigger is because my dad was so interested in them and was overjoyed that I was, too. The good memories outweigh the triggering aspects. My favourites are 1940's-50's sci-fi, I have so many books from then which I am determined that I will attempt to read again someday.
