Good evening, WaS!
Firstly, may I say to haybel19, please don't be afraid to ask questions for fear that may be silly. Education always starts with a question! All the great brains asked questions that many people thought were stupid at the time - Galileo, da Vinci, Newton, Einstein, (and now haybel!) - seriously, though, asking is how we learn. If anyone says "what a silly question!", it is they who are silly, not the enquirer!
I once posted a question on the IT thread. One reply said, "it's such and such, OBVIOUSLY!"
"Well," I replied, "it wasn't obvious to me, which is why I asked in the first place!"
Other people who replied weren't quite so crass!
Anyway, for every question you ask, there will be other people who want to know that as well!
I'm sure that if WaS doesn't want to answer a particular question, she will say so, and why.
Now I've forgotten what I was going to ask you, WaS!.........:rotfl:....oh yes! .......if the good voices are all different facets of you, and therefore, ARE all you, why is it still so important for them to keep their 'distance' from say, your partner?
I kind of feel I understand why, but not entirely!
Thank you. I always worry my question might sound offensive and I don't mean them too. You made me smile I have never been in the same sentence with Galileo, Da Vinci or Newton before lol.
Great question....
WaS I have two more questions. Do you have any idea how many MPD people there are or how many have ever taken over? Is it usually the same suspects who takeover?
Also is it possible they could post whilst they have taken over? And if so is there anyway that we would know?Make £10 a day challenge November £125.60/310
December 417.35/310 January 512.33/310

I am sooo full of admiration for the incisiveness of these questions, and the honesty and knowledge with which WaS is answering them! Totally gobsmacked.Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0

Really good questions, haybel! The answer to both is, we have agreements that we don't break. To use the psychiatric term I am what is called the host. This means the main personality that interacts with the real world and is in charge of the body almost all of the time. I wouldn't say I am the 'proper' one as that belittles the rest and implies they are lesser but this me has the responsibility unless I can't cope with interacting. This is agreed amongst everyone.
One of the rules is no one else interacts as me. There are the the protector reflections who watch over the others to make sure that this doesn't happen and who can return the body to me at any time. So you never ever have to worry about someone posting as me, the only time it would change would be if a major trauma happened (And I can't think of any reason that would be big enough) and they had to remove me or I chose to go back inside. Then Cas would take over as we agreed and let people know that it isn't me. She has done this a couple of times when I have been very ill and put the body in danger. Otherwise you're all stuck with me!
I know around 12 of the people inside. There are more but as I said I cannot meet them. As far as I know there are 3 that will take over when needed and Lucee who does it for fun. However, I have no idea what happened in the missing 9 months. There could have been one person or several who swapped around and I am not allowed to know because it is too dangerous for me. A specialist MPD clinic actually agreed with that, and felt I should never get the memories back. It is frustrating but I see why.
Hahahaha, Hello, JM! I love questions, it stops me feeling self-indulgent if people are interested! These are such good ones, too.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

Do all the MPD personalities hear all the schizo voices?:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

They do to varying degrees, whitewing. In some cases it really upsets them especially the young ones. In the house they are much fainter though, as it would be if you are listening to people outside when you are in a real house. If the bad voices shout then pretty much everyone hears them and the young ones are made to sleep. This means pretty much what they did to me yesterday, where I just blip out for hours at a time. The protecting ones can force that to happen inside, too so that the most frightened ones get some relief.
It is a very complex community, we have lots of rules and agreements and coping strategies. It was formed over my entire life and is far more complicated than just imagining people exist and writing a life story for them. Sometimes I am surprised myself at how much detail there is.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

I love that people ask questions, helps my understanding!
Pyxis is bang on!
My understanding too. Its putting things in place for me about someone I used to know but never understood. If I'd someone to ask then, eh.....sigh.
I'm in bed, DH is down stairs, playing like an angel.:). I'm so behind schedule its far from funny, but DH and I are giggling together anyway. Its great to be seeing so much of each other.0 -
Thanks for the reply, WaS!
Yes I can see that any partner of mine, who loved me as the present-day me, which is compiled from all the experiences I have had, might be a bit disconcerted to find himself embracing the 19 year-old me, who was rather pathetic! Or worse, the thirteen-year old me, in love with Paul McCartney! Or worst of all, the male side of me, which must be in there somewhere! :rotfl:(I just lurve spiders!)

Awww, that sounds lovely, LIR! Time spent together is important!
It is very hard to spot MPD if people don't say that they have it. It is a coping strategy designed to keep the body safe so it wouldn't work if it was obvious to others that there was a difference. At the most, people tend to find the person as a bit odd, perhaps they act slightly differently sometimes or say something unexpected as inner people switch. Most people can recognise something isn't quite 'right' but have no idea why, I have had quite a few people to say to me that they always thought that there was something a little strange about me but they couldn't put their finger on it and they go off scratching their heads.
Don't blame yourself, the whole point of it is survival and that means keeping things looking as ordinary as possible to the outside world.
That is exactly right, Pyxis! Because we have different ages we all act differently and it would be unfair to do that to a partner. You may notice with me at times that the others can influence me if they are nearby. This means looking out through my eyes and wanting to hear things and touch things through my hands in the real world rather than getting on with things in the house. Lucee looks out a lot and I will often seem quite young in some of my interests, other times I may make the odd risque joke, that will be a teenager. I am still totally me but because they are 'close' to me they will slightly influence my thoughts and emotions.
Good example! Just me wouldn't feed toast to pugliet. Me with one of the children's influence will not only feed him but wipe his mouth for him afterwards and I will admit to that at the time and not find it odd at all (and now I feel immediately bad for saying that with a lot of sadness. Yes, little ones of course I would feed pugliet, I was pretending that I wouldn't. They're watching!).Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

Yes.. Been a big topic of conversation today in fact. In his genre of music they are pretty much expected. He's been looking at a particular thing he expects might be requested by someone in this particular audience. For me he plays a couple of things in particular. One is a tune I love but isn't particularly popular, though by no means obscure. We have few popular tunes that are sometimes particular meanings to us.....little notes of something that's going on. Can be confusing if they've been requested or a band member has called it because has problem with set list and its a suitable substitution.
I'll get there, sure. Really I'm ok. Still two days, because I still have Friday most of it.
I don't know what I'm going to wear either, need to sort that out too, that's going to be a night mare.0
