Oh, she is right LIR. I am just naughty and don;t dress as I should. On the farm last week all I had on was a sweatshirt and I wasn't cold at all despite there being frost everywhere. I admit I am very bad at keeping wrapped up in winter.

A body warmer is a good idea, I might prefer that to a coat. I shall have a look at the link, this is all new to me because I have never been on a farm before in my life and have little idea what's suitable.

Are you going to walk you man hating beastie on a lead rope?

If so I absolutely INSIST that your woman is right and you MUST get gloves. IMO they are one of the most important pieces of safety equipment, so overlooked. Rope burn, should he pull away, is extremely unpleasant. I'm being stern and bossy now was!

I wear pjs and shorts and anything on my yard, but I like decent foot wear and gloves.

Other things I'd like to suggest. These aren't mandatory, but they keep one feminine after and during a day outside with animals.

Hand creM. You are going to be washing your hands because its a properly run place with health and safety measures. You will get dry skin in hot or cold weather. A decent lip balm and skin protector, when weather is rough this will help, and in summer too. ( I know you need sunlight but still might be worth taking advice about SPF for those days). For some of the girls on my yard I know they use a tub of Vaseline for faces, hands and lips. Its simple and cheap. Its too much for my skin but I use vit e oil for lips and face with moisturiser and hand cream.

A nice bath product. Nothing like a sock in the tub after a day in the yard. You can wash the smell of animal off you and ease the muscles out. I know they are not setting you to heavy labour, but its all going to be new to you and hard on you, can you use radix or something like that?

There are bonuses here. :). As well as seeing the animals and helping there and going out, you will have an enforced 'your body is your temple' ritual. ;).

Oh, really bad or sunny weather days, leave normal conditioner in your hair, its a great protector from wind and sun damage. :), and you get an all day conditioning treatment!

don't underestimate the need for handcream (says Ms HSE who's area of expertise is dermatitis)
  • So glad you are feeling better today, LIR.

Yes I am on llama duty! Part of what the owner suggested as my designated tasks was working on a one to one with Kevin the Llama as all of the other volunteers are male so he gets very little attention. Gloves do make sense, I hadn't thought about holding his rope! What we agreed to start me off was holding and entertaining the small animals while their cages were cleaned which I can do sitting in a barn alone to get me comfortable. Then if I feel up to being in the field next to the barn working with and feeding Kevin. They are currently teaching him to walk with a human so that will be a lot of my work.

I will need something on my skin because I am one of these white as a sheet people that burn in 10 minutes. Plus one of my medications makes me vulnerable to extra sun damage. I didn't think of that either. You are correct with hand washing, too. They were very insistent that I washed my hands with a special liquid and I had to step into a tray of disinfectant and wash my boots before I could leave.

A long soak in the bath afterwards would be ideal. Just from the little walking I did last Friday I was in quite a lot of pain on Saturday, my muscles are very weak due to years of sitting indoors.

There is so much to think about, I need a list!

Ooh WaS I feel you on the sunburn thing, such a pain isn't it?! Am so looking forward to hearing about your adventures with Kevin, this is going to be the start of a beautiful friendship :)
  • It's a real pain, tea. I don't think I have ever had a tan in my life. I go from ghost white to bright red and sore in minutes and then my skin falls off and it's back to white! The last time I visited my teacher friend I sat in his garden for 20 minutes and blistered.

Am just the same! I don't think my skin is made of skin lol. I can go bright red within ten mins in the shade, then I just peel.

    Hi guys!

Thanks for all your good wishes.

Nope. They didn't have the other CD so I consoled myself with a lovely "fake sweater" blouse - cobalt blue sleeves and collar with a bow with black polka dots and a black sweater body.

£2.99 from age UK channelling BHS.

And chocolate. There was a lot of wandering/exploring and chocolate.

I've sticky taped the hairs off it and it's ready to be washed to get rid of the strange smell.

    It's a nice blouse, honest. :o

I made an appointment for Friday to talk to the architect and builder to go over the results of the structural survey and maybe drill a few more 4" wide holes around the place.

I still haven't been near the music shop.

I've downloaded a "critical update" for my 'phone and uninstalled a lot of apps I have no use for.

I'm now host to Cortana, which I'm thinking of uninstalling - Wolves is so rubbish, there are no events Cortana can think of for me to go to, recommends McDonalds and Nando's as popular places and shows me World headlines for my news for my region.

    Mate.

I have a redhead's delicate skin. Even my hands are heavily freckled.

I have keratosis pilaris, giving my whole body, including my face, a goosebump appearance and gives rise to acne, rosacea which includes acne and I'm perimenopausal - more acne.

It's hard to keep the zits under control when you're having to use a high SPF. It doesn't matter what the promises are on the bottle/tub/can, you could grease a car axle with the contents.
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

WaS, think about getting a hat with a bit of a brim. Protects from sunburn, keeps the rain off and gives you something to hide under if you're feeling a bit exposed.
Which reminds me I meant to post a link to an article in Saturdays paper about experiments with different lighting in schools in Norway. Might be of interest to those with SAD. Can't do it on my tablet though. In the guardian if anyone wants to look it up.

I want to know who came up with the name Kevin for a llama?
I was reading in the paper this morning about two couples in France who've been banned from calling their daughters Nutella. You couldn't make it up.
