Jobbing musician, how long are we allowed to make threads? On another board we were asked to keep long threads to ten thousand posts then start new second part threads but I think there are longer ones? It would be good to know so that all contributers to WaS's thread, especially WaS, can be well prepped if any changes are asked for.

Eeeeeeeep! I just received an email from the owner of the farm and she would like to offer me permanent placement to help out there as it went so well! I don't have to turn up at all or take her up on it regularly, just let her know if I will be coming because they need to keep a log for social services. I am welcome every and any Friday I wish to be there between 11-2 and can do as much or as little as I want but she thinks the man-hating llama would appreciate a new female friend as only she and her daughter can feed him and walk him.

If I want to she will teach me further care of the animals and I can help with the baby ones who will be born in the coming months. She will need to inform social services that I am there as there will be vulnerable people around, she doesn't need to worry, I am classed as vulnerable by them myself! I had told her last week that I am known to the mental health services so she doesn't think there will be any problem. There is a form I need to sign for insurance purposes but we can do that on the next visit. They have grant money to help with suitable clothing for people on placement so she will help me with that in the following week! Other than that, I just need to get a tetanus shot!

I am not sure whether to bounce off of the walls or burst into tears. Maybe both! I am so, so happy!

Rats I an help with I used to breed them.

They need a huuuuge amount of space and at least 2 live for about 2 years and let me give you some indication of cleverness.

I had a male and a female astfgl and taliesin, I used to go downstairs and come back up to find astfgl cleaning in the centre of their cage grooming looking verrrrrry innocent and Tali on the floor so Tali would get told off one day they didn't realise I was in the room and I got to watch Astfgl swing on the latch to open the cage, sneak out to where the food was take some and store it in another corner hear someone coming upstairs jump back into the cage and clean herself........

I do think I am, JM! I really wasn't expecting that! She said if I only turn up every 8 weeks it's fine, no pressure at all. She just needs to formalise it a little because they are charity and work closely with social services. I can just handle the animals if I wish but there is an opportunity to do more if I am brave enough. What a lovely, lovely thing to offer me. Animals all year round, every week if I want to! And baby animals in the spring!

Hahahahaha! That is hilarious, melly! And very sneaky!

The flexibility their offering is also fab WaS I say try it if you can.

Astfgl was ace. Another one was pearly he was huuuuge so big his bed was an orange crate, he would come out when told he could and wrap round me chuntering away in my ear. He made verrrrrry elaborate nests out of straw only one I had that did they where perfectly weaved spheres loved cuddles but looked.like looked like a proper.wild rat so scared people who were frightened of them.
  • I am almost certain that I am going to say yes. I won't say the commitment isn't a little intimidating but then again I don't have to go if I don't want to. As you say, LIR just being outside will be a huge improvement for me, my vitamin D levels for one will be very grateful.

I didn't contact them with the idea of a placement at all, this is completely out of the blue! I do like the idea of being the visiting llama carer, though! If I can't have pets this is the next best thing for me, lots of cuddles weekly if I want! I would also be interested in learning more about how the farm works and helping with it, but first I will work on getting used to being there. It is almost voluntary work, I can't quite believe this is happening!

Aww, your rats sound adorable, melly! I would love them no matter what they looked like!
