I have downloaded myself an app tonight called debt manager, it has all of our debts listed and the amount per month that payplan have offered to each debt the each month it automatically updates with the new balance and I can add any extra payments in, it also gives you a debt free date which adjusts according to payments . I am pretty chuffed to be honest..small things and all that :)

Great find, I may have a look for that myself

    Hi Skinny,

Welcome to the thread! We're all lovely here and will be nothing but gentle with you :) we've all been through the set up process and know how scary it can be so dinnae worry tha sen love ;)

    Personally, I'm with Step Change but I assume PP will follow the same initial process which will be;

    1. A run through your debts including totals and current monthly repayments.

    2. A run through your income and expenditure (I.e. Rent/mortgage, Council tax, fuel bills, child care, food, etc and so forth *be realistic here, don't scrimp just because you feel you're naughty*

After that they will have a picture of how much you can really afford to pay each month in total.

Once you're ok with that they'll send forms to sign and then they'll start to contact you're creditors with offers of payment.

That's the basic premise, during the first month or so you will be contacted but a soon as you tell them you're entering into a DMP with Payplan then they'll be much friendlier (generally) and put your account on hold for 30 days until they're contacted - during this time you can make token payments to keep things ticking along...

The first month is the worst but it's by no means terrible :) plus this motley crew are around to give you help and advice as you go along!

Out of curiosity, what was your LBM?

I used Payplan for my completed DMP as well.

Timescale for me was I approached them in September 2005, did my telephone interview with them in October 2005 and made my first payment in Dec 2005.

I finished my DMP in June 2013 and I am now DF.

Well done on dealing with your debt☺

    Hi,

We are also just about set up with pay plan, I guess if you have an appointment to set it up you may have gone over the budget already with them? while we waited for the telephone appointment they sent through the paperwork for us to sign and send back, they asked us to check their copy of the budget to make sure it was correct. I was nervous about the phone call but they were so lovely I actually felt a little emotional afterwards . The case worker just checked that we understood everything, that we were happy with the amount we agreed to pay then she seat up the direct debit payments. We had our call last week and they said we could have started in July if we wanted but we asked to start in august so I think it can be as fast or as slow as you like. Since then I have logged on to the payplan plus (they will give you a password to access your account online when they ring) and they've already made the offers to our creditors, some of which have been in contact with us and agreed to freeze interest already. It's not been half as bad as I thought it would be (fingers crossed it stays that way) and this thread has been a life saver so far!

A bit of an update. Well, could not make the full payment for our DMP last month as things went a bit awry. But, we are back on track and I was able to make a few payments and pay off one creditor. I have managed to lower some of the bills and I am now saving those up to pay off a creditor in November. In fact, two will be paid off then and two more in February! And we have extra money left over in the bank with all the bills paid off.

On a side note, we were given tickets to go to Legoland from Merlins Magic Wand. My son is autistic and this is a charity that grants wishes to disabled children. So, we can do something nice for his birthday next month. I am so grateful and he is very excited.

It is so hard to tell him we do not have money for certain things. I want to take him on some holidays, but I know we cannot do it until we are out of the mess. And the cowboy builder who messed us over and put us in this position in the first place? I have managed to make contact with another person he did the same thing and we went together to Trading Standards and making complaints to Companies House, Watchdog and for fraud. It will not get the money back, but we may get some justice!

  • Been away licking my wounds (figuratively). After posting to thank TTFM I dropped my phone...The phone DH had given me the day before as a surprise and caused over £100 of damage :( bit the bullet and told him while he was away (so he had time to calm down ;)) turns out he wasn't angry, was more worried about the state of me - ridiculously upset over something so stupid. Guess it was everything else pouring out. My leg IS infected, I'm allergic to penicillin so I'm taking erythromycin at a huge dose and I feel like I have the flu and a stomach bug :( work wasn't great either (people trying to drag me into petty arguments) and had to admit I was doing too much and needed to take a step back.

Anyhow, DH got back around lunchtime, took the phone (without me knowing) and got it fixed. He also bought a VERY robust case and didn't even moan when I watched all 5 hours of Tour de France live coverage (which I adore).

Still feeling a bit sorry for myself, leg is still "releasing emissions" when I cleaned and redressed it this morning and it's very painful. However, TdF was awesome and as with every year I'm hooked (unlikely that I'll leave the house until it's over - think of the NSDs! :D) and I only have TV licence and SC payment to come out of the bank and all other money is mine (still love that feeling)

Hope you are all having a good weekend
