We're stronger and happier than ever now. Marriage is bloody hard work at times and I'm a little bit proud that we didn't let debt break us.

Hi everyone and thanks for the welcome
I have an appointment for a call from payplan on Wednesday to run through next steps. Chap I spoke to today advised there will be paperwork posted through to me and I can complete that and send back as quickly as I like.
I guess what I'm not sure of is how soon they will put things in place as I will have bills due again in the next few weeks and don't know what to do about them if the plan isn't in place as I know I can't afford to pay them in full but I am worried about the charges they will apply in the interm.
Having a bit of a frantic moment I guess and looking for some advice to try and calm myself down.
Finally told hubby at the weekend that I wasn't managing and that looking at a dmp although not how much I owe just that we can't maintain paying what I am. He was very calm about it all which is a relief.
Sorry for the Rampling on.0 -

Hi Skinny,
Well done on getting going and telling hubby!!
As for this months payments have you can send a letter to each of your creditors stating that you are starting a dmp with PP and offer each a token £1 payment until the dmp is up and running. I did this for 3 months before I started my dmp to fix the car and have a small emergency fund. Obviously you will get some interest and charges but it is quite usual for the debt to go up in the early stages and then it will all settle down.

Nervously saying hi.
I'm sat here in tears after completing the stepchange debt remedy online. It's recommended either selling assets or going onto a dmp. For a number of reasons I think the dmp is the best option.
I'm self-employed and 5 weeks pregnant and worried about the future so please be kind.
I've filled in the form and requested the application pack. It said I'll have an email within 24 hours. I don't know if this will contain suggested figures or what?
I'm so scared at the minute, I can't stop worrying and bursting into tears. I've never missed payments before and I'm terrified of anyone banging on the door or constant calls and letters. I don't know if I can handle it all.Making £1,000 plus every month from home :T0 -
Hello and welcome. I'm sorry you are experiencing such distress. Being in debt is not a crime, it's a temporary state that you are trying to manage. Good on you for trying to manage it. It's a very very brave thing you have done doing the debt remedy and facing the situation on and everyone one here has felt that fear so knows how hard it is.
If its any consolation, my panic and anxiety lessened immensely once I started a dmp, I am now one year on. The calls from creditors have pretty much stopped. It's one of the best things I have ever done - I was terrified at the time. Talk to SC and let them help - they can deal with creditors for you if they are anything like Payplan. If you can't wait for the email call them and talk it through.
You can always unplug the phone if it's ringing more than you can cope with. It's unlikely that anyone will come banging on your door but if they do there are things you can do about that too (least of all not answer it!). There are things that can be done and stepchange will help you. It's what they do day in day out. Talk to them, talk to people on here, and most importantly, keep breathing.Debt at highest - June 2013 - 26k/ March 2018 - 2500

Thank you so much. I've just completed the pay plan online form too and that appears to be suggesting a lower monthly repayment. I've spoken to them and they're going to ring back this evening.
I know the idea is to pay back as quickly as poss but a lower monthly payment would be much more manageable in our situation with a baby on the way.
I think I'm a bit depressed. I can't calm myself down. My friend gave me a good talking to this morning I feel like such a failure though. I'm going to the doctors tomorrow for referral to midwife, I don't know whether to mention all this too.
Is there much difference between paypal and stepchange?Making £1,000 plus every month from home :T0 -
Hello. You are not a failure and telling yourself that you are is not going to get you out of debt any quicker so try and stop that
you are doing a brave thing, you have taken some big steps today so well done. Try and feel proud of yourself for taking action, instead of beating yourself up. What would you say to a friend if it was them? I bet you wouldn't tell them they were a failure.
If you feel able to, mention it to your doctor, it's a really stressful thing and could impact your health.
I don't know what sc are like but others on here are using them. Pp have been helpful to me and helped me get my finances on some kid of track at a time when I just couldn't cope with it myself.
Take it easy. This too shall pass.Debt at highest - June 2013 - 26k/ March 2018 - 2500

Hi and a warm welcome
No one is going to knock on your door. Plenty of laws to protect you from that. DMP can get set up very quickly but id have a couple of months on tokens. Get yourself a cuppa and packet of biscuits and start at the beginning of the thread. Youll be amazed how many physical and emotional lessons there are. Most of us started out terrified, have had the odd wobble on the way but we all got stronger and more knowledgeable and snowballing our way to debt freedom.
Any questions just shout up
