How can they justify different rates for different accounts:mad:
Either you have financial issues (which you do as a DMP is not an easy option) -'or you don't, in which case you'd be able to transfer your debts to a 0% or whatever. Keep fighting them.

We are the same, have 2 accounts, mine is frozen and Mrs BB is 6%

I've not rocked the boat yet because mine is by far the biggest and that is 0% for now.

As and when I have to go it alone with the DMP (already decided not paying any more come SC review and they won't like that) I'm just going to £1 them until they come around. Even if that coming around is to pass it to a DCA.

Its amazing what a year brings in how you understand how the different banks work. Some are completely brilliant agree to 0% forever (MBNA) as long as you maintain the agreed payment, and some even Default you instantly (Tesco and Santander) which is even better.

Tesco and Opus are the only 2 that are dragging their heels with me but it's only about £30 a month so for now I will grin and bear it.
  • Hi just thought I would update you as to a query I posted early in December.

Started a DMP in November 2013, all creditors froze interest and accepted SC plan. (barclaycard, barclays and MBNA).

I year into the plan Barclaycard started asking for higher amounts on our statements that what we had previously been paying via SC

I wrote to them and advised SC and have had a letter back saying they will accept the payment from SC although I will still get statements saying how much I need to pay monthly (which will obviously increase) but told to ignore this.

No interest being charged at the moment on statements.
    Fingers crossed.

  • Hi All

Really good to see there are some postive and determined DMPers coming up to the new year. I am determimed to speed things up and make settlement offers when I can. I also have Barclay card x 2 ( 1 ex egg) they have always charged inerest but have not messed about with putting full interest back on and off, as I experienced with Halifax. I have never really addressed it, as think they won't budge. I just want to clear asap. Both accounts 6.9%. H have since admitted should have defaulted ages ago so repaid interest, and now charge 0%. I am not advising others not to challenge Barclays, its just that I feel I have left it a bit late. All my other debts are now 0%.

I keep seeing mention of 'spreadsheets' on here. Could anyone give me a tip for a spreadsheet for spreadsheet simpletons app?

Happy prosperous new year to all. Cyd

  • Hi all!

Apologies for the epic absence but I'm back and in full MSE mode! I haven't even read the forum since 8th December and I've missed you all. Small matter of 5 exams, job unsecurity, Christmas for 4 kids, consequential flu and a family crisis :(

I'm back now with massive motivation to bust this debt, all exams passed and I'll be seeing the New Year in with only 4 figures of debt as I've just negotiated a settlement with Barclaycard for 60% :j (was 65% but I've just had a call back from UK complaints centre and a much more understanding lady has agreed my initial offer)

So high fives and hugs to all (I'm sure they'll both be required as I catch up on the last 3 weeks)

    Debt-free and Proud!
 Evening all, nice to see lots of positive debt busting going on!

I have spent some time number crunching this evening, poring over my spreadsheets and seeing how 2015 is going to pan out hopefully. Still aiming to be debt free by next Christmas. Hoping for Oct 15 but that will depend on things going relatively smoothly and the cars not costing us a fortune. Had some good news from work today, the charity that employs me have secured funding for my job for next year, so that's one less thing to worry about. Not sure what will happen after that but at least all the debts should be paid up by then, and I can re-think my job options if the worst happens.

Now because I am a numpty I messed up on my council tax last year and spent this year catching up. In 2015 I should be OK and get two months where I don't pay and intend to use this to bring down my Halifax CC bill. I am getting impatient now, just want to be debt free!
