  • Great to read all these positive posts from those who have been in their DMP's for several years, as I enter the 2nd month in mine! Christmas over and looking forward to getting my life back. I have every penny counted for January but barring any major disasters I should be ok. All my creditors seem to be on board with the DMP except Barclays who are pretending they don't know anything about it. Is that normal? I have sent a signed for letter to them & SC have contacted them also but I've started getting the pester phone calls, letters & a default in the post, but nothing to suggest they know im in a DMP. I think I'll write again to them & hope it filters through. Otherwise all good at the minute!

It's weird, because I voiced my concern to SC about BC (based on what I'd read about them on here) and was told not to worry as they have a 'special relationship' with BC for DMPs. Makes you wonder really...

I have read that Stepchange have a special relationship with Barclays for not offsetting so people don't need to change their current account but never anything about Barclaycard.

As Stepchange earn a % back from DMP payments from lots of banks/financial organisations, I find it quite surprising that they speak of Barclays as being special.

From everything I have read here and on the main DFW forum re Barclaycard, I must say I am very relieved that they are one I never had to do battle with!

To be honest, the person who told me this was the person I felt had the least amount of SC knowledge out of all the SCM people. He didn't fill me with all that much confidence, and I was also slightly confused by what he said. I was definitely talking about BC though. There was no mistaking that.

Wow, what a roller coaster 2014 has been for us. Christmas over and all within budget. Just had out annual review with Pay Plan and everything on track (except that Barclays stopped playing ball back in August, resulting in our DFD being pushed out by almost 16 months)

Still, We've just managed to increase our monthly payments, so hope to get things sorted in the next 12 months.

Home straight ahead, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. (weve been naughty and booked a holiday for 2015 (Holiday fund now open!)

Here's looking forward to the New Year.

Flaming Barclays again - they really are charlatans. We have 4 accounts with them. Interest frozen on 2, 6.6% on another and 16% on the last (which is the one where the interest is more than payment). Called them and they agreed to cut interest but low and behold - statement comes through and interest the same! Will be using token payments with them if things don't improve...
    DMP since August 2011
DFD January 2018 hopefully sooner :j

    Hi,
Have you actually spoken to them? Ignore me if you have! BC would definately win the dmp mst most awkward creditor award if we were to offer them one...although knowing BC they would pretend they never received it...:rotfl:

Hi Puzzcat, no I haven't actually spoken to them as they only started the phone calls the week before Christmas! Since I have had the DMP in place for 2 months now I assumed they were on board (yes silly me!) but I will definitely speak to them asap & see whats up.

Hi Phoenixx - looking at your sig, your debt busting is very impressive:beer:

How can they justify different rates for different accounts:mad:
Either you have financial issues (which you do as a DMP is not an easy option) -'or you don't, in which case you'd be able to transfer your debts to a 0% or whatever. Keep fighting them.

Has anyone every been defaulted with BC and gone over to DcA ?

Congrats to 2Sspicy entering the last year of DMP - all downhill now, look forward to that holiday. :j

I think it took 3 months, several phone calls and 3 attempts from SC to get Barclays sorted out with DMP paperwork, however to their credit whenever I rang or ring, they were polite and helpful and not at all scary.

    Hi Folks,

I've not posted since November! :o I hope everyone had a good Christmas!:)

We have had a rocky month or two as we seem to have had a £300 expense for both November and December which has completely knocked the DMP payments and cleared out the small emergency fund we had.

We had a 900mile dash in November to see a sick relative which involved two lots of Travelodge and some eating out. We bought an old banger this month as we decided to put our van off the road until the spring as a pre-MOT revealed some expensive repairs. In the short term it worked out cheaper to buy a car with an MOT already.

In other DMP news Virgin Media still denied receiving 12 of the 13 DMP that have been sent to them, even after PP had sent them proof of payments. They have been removed from my DMP and I am waiting for them to contact me direct so I can argue with them myself.

I have sent PP a new budget for 2015. It’s reducing payments a bit but I desperately want to get an emergency fund saved as we are back to zero again with that. I have also sent off a few cheeky full and final offers to our smaller debts, which will be from a "third party" but really Christmas money we have been given instead of presents! ;)

    Happy New Year! :T:T

    Hi everyone,

Just wanted to say thank you for helping me start my debt free journey and for being so supportive. I am only 2 months in to a very long road but feeling positive and like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.

I've had a few defaults, a few scary letters and texts but all have been dealt with :)

Barclaycard sent me a letter saying they were stopping my plan, but I wrote them a letter and they were really kind, wished me a happy Christmas and have agreed to lower my payments, charge me no interest and it's great.

For the first time in many years I did Christmas with no credit cards and yes it was hard but I did it. My debts are going down very slowly. Starting with £165 payment a month to all of them and I will slowly build it up as I have no emergency fund at the mo and literally earn enough to last the month. Already saving for Christmas 2015 in a sealed pot too!

So thanks again and here's to next year and chipping a chunk off my debts and having some spare money at the end of the month! Lewpster :)
