ebay unpaid item case opened against me

Hi.
I could do with a bit of help with an auction I've won on ebay.
I've twice sent a message to the seller to try and arrange collection, but I've had no reply.
I've now had an unpaid item case opened against me, demanding payment within 2 days.
I've sent a further (ie. 3rd) message to the seller to try and arrange collection.
Is there anywhere that I can add my comments to the case - I can't seem to find it?
I want the item, but I don't want to pay £15 postage for it, as it's just a waste of money since I'll be driving past the seller's town over the weekend (it appears to be a private seller, not a business).
I won't be paying until I get that response from the seller, so in the worst case I'll get an unpaid strike against me, just because the seller won't reply.
Any pointers?
Thanks!

Hi.
I've twice sent a message to the seller to try and arrange collection, but I've had no reply.
Did you ask the seller if collection was OK before bidding?
If it's something that would be possible for me to collect, I always ask before bidding. If they don't reply, I accept that I'll have to pay postage and factor it into my bid, or I don't bid at all.0 -
Did you ask if you could colelct before bidding & did they give you confirmation of that?
If they only offered postage & you bid & won on that basis why do you think the seller should allow you to collect just cause you want to?
I often refuse collection on some item even when someone says they can collect either as it is not convenient for me or maybe I just don't want a stranger at my door.
If you bid on a postage item without prior agreement to collect then pay for it & wait for it to be delivered.I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

No, I did not check before bidding.
I've asked the question, which I consider to be reasonable.
I've not had a response either way from the seller to my question.
The seller appears to be quite new (only 14 transactions), and so may not have realised they could offer multiple options.
If the auction doesn't specifically state no personal collection, then there is no harm in asking.
I've been with ebay for many years, with over 1000 transactions, and I've never had an issue with asking.
But the seller hasn't responded.0 -
Maybe they haven't responded as the auction has ended, you bid on an item that offered postage only, you haven't paid & they feel it is not worth getting into a dialogue with you about collecting the item when they haven't offered that option.
You can leave them relevant feedback on their communication once you have paid & received the item.I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

.
You ask before, not after.
If the item only offers postage, then you need to assume no collection, not the other way round.
Why did you spend time posting a thread here, when surely your time would have been better invested asking the seller first? It'd save your time, saves the sellers time, and would have been the common sense thing to do...
The seller is under no obligation to agree to a breech of the listing terms and conditions you agreed to at the time you placed your bid. For avoidance of doubt, when you bid, you agreed to pay the listed postage charge. You need to fulful that obligation with no further fuss.0 -
Thanks for the info.
There is no breach of conditions; I am asking the seller a question.
FYI, I chatted with an ebay rep and they didn't give me a lecture.0 -

There is a breach of conditions if you don't pay! By bidding without asking about collection, you've accepted that the item will be posted.
The seller's communication may be rubbish but they don't have to agree to collection just because you are passing their town.0 -
It's simple, either pay like you agreed to and the seller will post it or don't pay and receive a deserved unpaid item strike.
The seller doesn't have to enter into any negotiations about the terms of their sale.0 -
Many ebay sellers prefer not to allow collections in person as there are too many ebay scams. Google it and you will see why sellers don't want it. And that before having a stranger at ones door.
Read the sellers terms and conditions before you bid ! You can't make up your own terms and conditions.0
