PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Threads that are found to have derailed into wider discussions may be removed. Users who repeatedly disregard this may have their Forum account banned. I am your landlord* and i am very cross that you have come on here telling everyone what an incompetent halfwit i am.
I am so angry that i have been unable to function all day and my lawyers have told me i can sue you for AT LEAST ten grand.
And don't even think about ringing up hmrc or the council cos i am not on the fiddle no way and if you do i will sue you twice for even more money
And i am guaranteed to win cos i know my stuff and that is why i am a top landlord and you are just some bloke what is living in my house that i own and pay all my taxes on and everything.

One would hope that they are all just full of hot air, or they have sought legal advice or read what you have sent them and concluded that they should back off. I think it's highly unlikely they would actually attempt an illegal eviction but it might help to have a brief read up on it anyway just in case. Do remember though that the police are not legally trained and may side with the landlord or not really understand what is going on.
Also remember that anyone can set themselves up as landlord or agent and require no qualifications what so ever (some don't even have an ounce of common sense, let alone anything more).

I would calculate everything you've paid in Council Tax and bills, then contact the energy/utility companies to find out what exactly has been used- I presume you'll have before and after meter readings?0
-
I presume that the OP doesn't have a meter to read. That will be in one of the other flats, I expect.0
-
It's quite common for tenants to pay a fixed amount towards bills, or have bills included in the rent, if there's one meter and no way of telling who used what.
My bills were included until randomly (without notice or warning) I had a knock at the door and it was the gas board about fitting a new meter... and I was suddenly on my own gas supply (then given a £10/month reduction on rent, then a year later the rent went up again).0 -
Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.
Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0
