Any problems with Scottish Power?

How long did it take to receive an email asking for electricity and gas meter readings? I signed up about 4 weeks ago and am keen to start saving and get shot of Southern Electric.0

I got the email to give them the meter readings last Monday, 16th July, and it was definitely more than four weeks after applying - I would say 5-6 weeks.

I've been with Scot Power for 2 years, the change was not without problems but the staff were helpful and the bills have always been correct. BUT Last August they notified me of changes in the terms & conditions, buried in which was that they would only notify me of price rises, and not price reductions. Sure enough, for recent months their web site tariff page showed prices dated July 06 with a very, very small icon leading to new lower prices.
I'm still with Scot. Power but have armed myself with a long spoon0 -
Personally I have found their customer services to be rubbish! See this thread: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=5030520

I am having a nightmare with SP am supposed to have an online account but have been locked out of it for weeks. I can't understand anything about my tariff which seems to switch and change-a total total nightmare. Have now taken them to Energywatch.0

We switched to them, and I guess it's been OK -- the lights have stayed on and we've always had hot water when we wanted it (apart from when the boiler broke down, but I don't think we can blame it on them!)
One really positive thing is that we're on a Green tariff -- we pay the same as normal online tariff but our electricity comes from hydroelectric sources.0 -

I am afraid it doesn't.
Your electricity comes from the same source as everyone else - the National Grid - and that includes electricity generated by coal, oil, gas, wind & nuclear(incl from France) as well as Hydro.
Regardless of you paying a Green tariff or not, a quota of electricity generated from Green sources(wind and hydro) must be produced by each generating company.
The Green Tariff is simply sold to give you a 'feel good' factor; and it seems like it works;)0 -
Just thought I'd update on Scottish Power. Got rung up yesterday re another offer. Seems that because I took up a capped rate I was out of the price rises. Still find all these tariffs confusing though.0

I am reasonably happy with SP. I have been with them for several years now, and was on a capped rate which ran out 2 years ago. A few months ago they raised my DD payment and it was in really small print on the bottom of the online bill and I hadn't noticed it. When I called them, they said it was because my capped rate had expired and they had not billed me the correct rate for 2 years, so obviously I owed them a fair amount of money. As it was their fault they are letting me pay it off over 2 years and have switched me onto another tariff which is slightly cheaper. They are by far the cheapest in my area, so no matter how many times I use the checker, I can only ever pay more by switching, and never save!
The customer services are good though, and very friendly.0 -
We changed to the online tariff a while ago and are now on the energy saver 4 tariff however although I get an email for the meter readings and submit them and get an online bill about a fortnight later someone comes to read the meter, does this happen for everyone, the main reason we swapped to the online tariff was to avoid moving the tv when the meter reader called as it's really awkward, it doesn;t make sense to me why they keep sending the meter readers0
