Hen party present?

Hi all,
Just a question. I don't really 'get' hen parties and my own was really just a meal out with a couple of friends, so I'm not really in with what is expected.
I couldn't attend my BIL's fiancee's hen party due to the fact I was away (I hate things like this anyway, and I didn't know anyone, so it was a good excuse). Apparently I'm expected to give her a present for her hen party? Is this commonplace? I've literally never heard of giving gifts to a bride on her hen, I'm talking about people were apparently giving her booze and jewellery etc. Surely the only gifts you give are at the wedding?
Anyway, seems to have got me in some bother, as I've been deleted off Facebook by her sister (the HORROR) and had a sarcastic text sent to me when I asked if I could post her something. We're not really close and I get the feeling she can't stand me and puts on a smiley face, which annoys me even more that I'm obliged to give her a gift.
Thoughts?

Ha, ha, NO it's not commonplace at all.
Especially as you didn't go to the hen do.
Ignore her daft sister and don't let her cheek bother you.0 -
Well I've agreed with OH that I'll just get her some crappy necklace or something from JL or Topshop just to keep the peace as it's only two weeks to the wedding. It bloody annoys me having to do so though.0

Wt actual f?!? Why on earth should she get a present? I could understand turning up with a bottle of wine or something maybe if you were going on the night, but to send a present...?? Madness.
Think I'd be thankful you'd been deleted and wouldn't have to endure any awful nights out!0 -
Cheeky moo expecting hen presents!
I've never heard of that before & I think it's stupid. Hen nights & weddings are expensive enough without other daft expenses.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
I've never heard of the hen getting a present! that's so strange, maybe a drink or 2 on the night! very weird.0

Well seems the opinions are pretty unanimous. I thought I was missing out on something as I don't give a t*ss about hen parties etc.
When I asked if I should send her something, she actually gave me a different address to send the present to as it was more convenient for her!0 -
Why on earth would anyone spend their hard-earned money on a present for someone where there is mutual dislike? Thank her for blocking you on F/B - if your B/f wants to buy her a present - well as long as he uses his money ......;-)0

I couple of Hens ive been on in the last few years have asked the attending people to bring something small for the Hen for under £5. One was silly stuff for her to wear on our night out. I don't agree with it, people pay too much around weddings as it is with the cost of travel, hotels, outfits, drink, present on the wedding and then weekend away Hens that seem to be happening nower days. And I have had 5 weddings a year for the last 7 years!!!
If your not going, then I think it is crazy to get anything but then again I don't like getting Hen presents when I do attend.
Ive organized two Hens (one which was my own) and I explicitly said on both NO presents.0 -
Gosh, this got me slightly worried - i'm attending a hen party in a few weeks time and didn't even think of a gift!0

Wow, I'm in shock. Presents for hen parties, seriously??
Even when I've organised hen do's I've always bought the 'silly stuff' myself for a couple of quid, wouldn't dream of asking people to contribute.
Sounds like being de-friended is the best thing that could have happened!!0
