Isn't the difference that the English/British don't sing that verse of the National Anthem? Just sayin'. I've never, ever heard it sung.
Is Flower of Scotland the actual National Anthem of Scotland? I always thought it was like Jerusalem, something that did stand in duties for rugby matches etc. Isn't it a bit depressing that the National Anthem is about an ancient military victory that mostly stands out for being one of very few when set against the defeats?
I suppose it beats the Dutch one which swears allegiance to the Spanish King. The French one has best lyrics:Arise children of the fatherland
The day of glory has arrived
Against us tyranny's
Bloody standard is raised
Listen to the sound in the fields
The howling of these fearsome soldiers
They are coming into our midst
To cut the throats of your sons and consorts
To arms citizens Form your battalions
March, march
Let impure blood
Water our furrows

As I've already said, I understand the hatred.
Brilliant "hatred" themed post- economic, parsimonious, with the fewest extraneous words to support the inclusion of your fave six-letter h word.
If it wasn't for the ten-character limit, I don't think you'd want to include anything else at all.:DThere is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

There's a pub near me that has a memorial to Bonnie Prince Charlie in the beer garden marking the Southernmost point reached by the invading Scottish army. It's near Derby.0 -

I certainly know many people who have moved to London and also some who moved to London, couldn;t afford it and moved back.
The economic arguments are quite likely both the weakest and most pointless arguments in favour of dividing the union.
There's no evidence to suggest that Scotland going independent won't lead to more people leaving Scotland to move to England. This would have an even worse affect on Scotland as they wouldn't receive any of the benefits of the work and taxation in the UK.
Arguments over increasing exports by 50% aren't backed up by any evidence it's likely to happen. You get some superficial policy ideas floated to tempt the economically illiterate; like decreasing the duty on flying.
Here's news to you: Scotland isn't going to become the premier European hub. It's in a rubbish location and you can bet that other governments including the UK would also decrease duty if they started losing passengers to Scotland.
I'm neither pro-independence or pro-union and I think it's very important that Scots make this decision for themselves. I do however hope they make the decision based on whether they think their interests and ideals are shared with the wider UK or not.Having a signature removed for mentioning the removal of a previous signature. what do you truly think will swing the vote to 'yes'
the purely economic arguments or the non economic argument?0 -

Whether you sing that verse or not, it's in the Lyrics.
In Scotland, we tend to only sing two out of the three versesIs Flower of Scotland the actual National Anthem of Scotland?
It is.
there have been debates / permissions etc to offer alternatives such as Scotland the Brave, highland Cathedral, Scot's Wh Hae etc, but the Flower of Scotland has always prevailed.
Interestingly, you raise a good point.
Isn't God save the Queen the British Anthem.
Should "England" be allowed to use the British National Anthem?
Why not use the Rose of England?:wall:

As I understand it, whilst repeatedly defending Scotland, Scotland did move south and take over some English castles and territories in order to defend itself on foreign
soil.
Guess it's a bit like the UK going into Iraq / Libya etc:wall:

Why has England historically had a hatred to the Scots such that we had to defend ourselves?
Frankly, I am appalled but not at all surprised, as you confirm everything I have been saying.0 -

Charles wanted to take the English crown - that's it.
He spent probably less than 3 years of his 68 year life in the British Isles but managed to persuade enough Scots to risk their lives for his cause - probably through whipping up a patriotic fervour which must have been quite a job when he'd never been to Scotland.
I seriously doubt the defence of Scotland entered his consciousness.0
