This post has more than 700 views... amazing.

I can give you links from 4 hotels that I use in Portugal, all around Oporto city.
I staid in one in France near Nice and one in Spain near Salamanca but it was more than 10 years ago and I can't remember the name of them.

My favorite one is the "Eclipse motel" near a city called Aveiro, this city is called the Vezena of Portugal.
    See the link:
    https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Aveiro&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=ysyOU_bIBIOXPaGTgKAB&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAg&biw=1600&bih=785

This type of hotel in Portugal it is called "motel" and normally you can book for 12h, 24h, 36h... They accept cash or any credit card.

Motel Eclipse- Aveiro (30 miles from Oporto)

You are in a different culture. Britain has primarily a conservative Anglo Saxon culture. Totally different to to the Romanic and Gallist cultures you are familiar with.

I'm not sure Britain is any more conservative than the predominantly Roman Catholic countries of Southern Europe.

I'm not sure if it's quite the same thing as in Portugal, but these "love hotels" are very common and popular in South America. They are also known as motels (or "telos" in Argentina). As far as I can see, the main reason they are successful is that most young people live with their parents until they marry, or at least until well into their 20s/30s, and most parents don't allow them to bring "guests" home. Hence the need for somewhere to go. The other main market, of course, is extra-marital affairs.

I'm not sure how successful they would be over here.

I am still looking for a hotel that suits what we want.

In Portugal we call them Motel and you can find them anywhere.
    You pay them for 4, 6, 12 or 24h.

In Japan for example they are called "love hotel".

In England... well... I think that they would have loads of interested people.

Not only young couples, but parents that want a bit more privacy since houses in England are small and bedrooms side by side :-)
