    Thanks purpleshoes :)

I realised pretty quickly that small dumbbells won't really get me anywhere, so I bought a 20kg set as soon as I could afford them.

My OH will check I'm doing it properly if I'm unsure but so far so good. Just taking my time with it. I lifted something heavy a few years ago a twisted my back quite badly so I'm always careful that I do it properly.

Hopefully one day I'll have a bit of spare cash and join a gym. But for now I'm ok exercising at home. The down side is we have very little space and buying a barbell isn't ever going to work in our house.

I'm really enjoying it though and I'm really pleased. I'm one of those people who can get bored with exercise really quickly but this seems to be suiting me better. Another plus is that the cellulite on my thighs is definitely vanishing quicker than with any other exercise I've done in the past :T
Even if you stumble, you're still moving forward.

If you dont have a lot of space Id suggest buying a kettlebell, maybe around 14kgs or so.

It's amazing what a rest day can do :)

    Todays workout:

    15mins on bike (L4)
2000m on rowing machine (L5)- just over 10 mins
    30mins on treadmill, incline @ 5.5, speed @ 5.9

    2x12 weights (as usual).

Feeling great. Cant make it again until Saturday now.

Still plodding along, but cannot seem to get below 10st 10lbs.

Am going to have to try even harder this week, more with the diet than with the gym. I am having my 6 week review at the gym next week, which is where they will be seeing what I can do to help build more muscle.
I suspect they'll be saying the same as what purpleshoes has said, both in her PM to me, and on this thread-More free weights rather than machine based.

So far I am most pleased about my progress on the rowing machine. I blinkin' HATE that thing, but I am so pleased that I am now able to do 2000m. When I first started, I could barely do 1400 :) After next week I am aiming for 2200.

Plateaus are normal, but if you are exercising away and nothing is moving, you may need to shake up your routine and Id suggest as I said before that you do some HIIT style classes if you have the time

Also, keep a food diary and log everything and I mean everything you eat plus alcohol units as well.

Thanks purple shoes- the food diary is a good idea actually. I often find myself trying to remember what I have eaten and drank throughout the day but always feel there are some bits I cant remember.
If nothing else, it'll highlight the fact that maybe I eat more than I think, or maybe I eat unhealthy stuff that I don't realise etc.

Re the HIIT classes, I have looked into the times and they only have 2 HIIT classes and I am at work for both of them :(
However, I can make my own HIIT routine at the gym I am sure :)

20 seconds on ten off, burpees, squat jumps, mountain climbers, squat thrusts, sprints, Id also use a kettlebell as well, decent weight 10-12kg

Repeat for 20 mins. I teach a freestyle circuits class using that format

Press ups, burpees with a press up in the middle, tuck jumps, lots of things you can do.
