winning 'family' hols

When entering comps for hols/breaks, I am doing so with the mind of taking a friend with me. I am childless.
However, with family ones where they state 2 adult and 2 children (or similar), would you HAVE to bring kids? I know if they state UPTO it's fine to enter, but what if they don't?

Here is an outline of some of the issues.
Personally I have added a child to a large holiday prize twice with no issues.
I would just enter & negotiate.0 -

Thanks.
Wow, you've won twice!!
Before that it was five nights in NY.We just gave up the $1000 SAKS gift voucher & got a child added on.
As I say, just ask & maybe it will be fine. Then again it might not.0 -
My 'Family' situation is 1 adult and 1 teen but I still think of us as a family.
My personal rule is, if the holiday is child centred with certain activities for children I pass, otherwise I enter.
Unless it says no school holidays or weekends, I hate those, so annoying.2014 - £12360 -
I enter them and would take a friend or my mum if I won.
I cant have children. I always think it's a little unfair when comps are for adults with children and you cant enter if you don't have anyBit like a smack in the face! Oh you cant have kids...well you cant have a holiday either!

No disrespect meant, but I wouldn't say it is "unfair" to have comps for adullts with kids, just as it isn't 'unfair' to have 'couples only/2 person' comps - I have kids, but don't complain that 2 person comps discriminate against me
As with any comps - you read the Ts&Cs and decide if you fit the 'criteria' and if you don't, but you enter anyway, then you just run the risk that, should you [miraculously] win then you might be able to negotiate the outcome you want, whilst being prepared that the prize providers may disqualify you and redraw for another winner.=^._.^= You will always be lucky if you know how to make friends with strange cats =^._.^=0 -
I do hope it's 'upto 2 adults & 2 children', otherwise it'd be excluding single parents and/or families with only one child:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

I don't enter family holiday comps, for the simple reason that I'd rather a prize like that goes to a genuine family, who may not otherwise be able to afford a holiday. I think travel is a great educator for children, so I love to hear of families going on holidays to countries the children wouldn't otherwise have seen, meeting new cultures, enjoying different food, etc.
Usually family holidays are to places most kids dream of going to - Florida, for example, seems to be a popular one at the moment. I wouldn't like to take that away from any child.
I do think, in a way, the family comps could be considered a little discriminatory of those who can't have children.
Two person holidays don't, in my opinion, discriminate in the same way, because there is the opportunity to leave children with grandparents, babysitters, etc.
Whereas, it's not like you can magic up children, if you are unable to have them.
Either way, I don't enter. I just couldn't take away that opportunity from a child / children.
There aren't many areas I feel 'ethically' strongly about, however, family holidays do fall into that list. Just because I can't / don't have children, I still couldn't take the opportunity away from others. Not that I think those without children who do enter are wrong, just that I wouldn't0 -

I think most companies would be very flexible in that regardI think a prize provider would take issue if they promoted a 'family competition' and the winner clearly has no intention of taking any children at all. Now people could potentially 'lie' but run the risk of being 'found out' or you are upfront and negotiate depending on your personal circumstances.
Family comps may include specific activites for children/or in a family/child-led resort, which is why it might not be appropriate for 2 people without children to go. If these comps don't specify this or Ts&Cs are a bit vague/open to interpretation then I think many on this forum consider these to be 'fair game' - moral or immoral, that's each person's right to choose. I think we all have personal opinions about the 'ethics' of comping in general but probably best to keep them to yourself unless you want to open a whole can of wriggly worms!!! :rotfl:)=^._.^= You will always be lucky if you know how to make friends with strange cats =^._.^=0 -

Well said Jess :T
Oh - chance would be a fine thing to leave my kids with someone!! (no-one nearby that could do that for us unfortunately) Still, I do sometime enter 2 people comps in the hope that I might be able to bring my LOs along for the ride - and experience
(or am I taking that chance away from two highly stressed and desperate couples who are far needier than me, my OH and our two holiday-less children
:rotfl: muddy waters indeed
