I have just been to Wetherspoons with my friend ordered and paid for meal, when it came there where about 12 chips on the plates
my friend sent them back to have more put on the plate another lady came back and told us that they are only alwowed to give you 17 chips each its a new rule they didn't tell us that when we paid for a meal

so if you go into wetherspoons make sure you get your 17 chips
we won't be going there again

You get what you pay for. You paid something like £2.13 for a pint and £3.36 for a meal and got a watered down, warm pint of swill in a dirty glass and fish and chips fresh from the microwave. Let this be a lesson to you.

If the company dictates that 17 chips is a 'portion' then that is what you get.

Most places are like this unless its a carvery. They have to have some sort of cost control.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I don't think it will say how many chips you get on any menu anywhere. I think they were having you on.
  • I love Wetherspoons and have always found it good value maybe it was just that one that stick to it strictly? Then again I've never counted my chips ... probably won't be able to resist checking next time now :)

My partner is a kitchen manager at a JDW and there isn't a hard and fast number of chips to give. They have a portioning scoop but most spoons are now getting new china atm (blue patterned) which are quite a bit smaller. This means staff may consciously or subconsciously be putting less on a plates.

On a personal note I think you have to be pretty sad to go to somewhere like weatherspoons and count how many chips they give you. Your getting a meal and drink for less than an hours minimum wage.

I strongly suspect that you've experienced someone interpreting portion control guidelines a bit too literally, or maybe just a thicko running the kitchen ;)

Wetherspoons provide a meal with reasonably well cooked food, typically large portions and service with good manners for less than the cost of a takeaway. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt here...

That is pretty mean - and I suspect that the photos in the place and on the menu would lead a customer to believe that more than 17 chips would be provided.

I'm not in favour of Wetherspoons personally though, for similar reasons to those posted by Ronaldo Mconaldo. Overblown junk masquerading as "proper pub food".

    Bad luck though, OP.

The menus do not have images; however looking at some promo pictures, some meals show as little as 10 chips of varied size.
