How much is your average monthly electric bill?

Options
Hi all,

I wont bore you all with the details but Iwas speaking to Powergen today and they have told me that after I clear my arrears on the account that they estimate that I am using £82 a month.

After looking at some peoples SOA I realised that I seeem to be paying a lot more than some people. We have 3 adults in the house and apart from one light that is left on all night (energy efficient bold mind!) and the TV what is on most of the day we dont really use much more.

Is £82 A lot or am I being unrealistic? if you could share your thoughts and what you normally spend I would be interested.

Cheers

    Hi crown

£82 sounds like a lot. We pay £40.79 for electricity - this was recently recalculated so I assume is an accurate reflection of usage. We are two adults and four children. The two adults work at home, so two computers are on pretty much all the time.

Anything from £50-£70, we use a lot as DH doesn't sleep well so the TV is on all night.

I only pay £27.50 per month. I refuse to use a tumble dryer or anything though and I am always yelling at the kids to turn off the lights. I am a bit fanatical about wasting energy and my kids even finish my sentence for me as if they leave taps running lights on etc I always shout who is wasting the earth's resources?. It works though.

That is mine with Scottish power and it comes to £42.28. I pay £30 a month DD and as you can see it will more than cover it.
This is for a three bedroom house with 1 adult and 2 kids. Three computers going most days, plus daughters tv in evening. Also use the dryer for about 3-5hours a week. (not had much choice last few weeks with constant rain)

    Thanks for the replies,

It would seem that my Bill is extremely high. I am not able to move from powergen at present as we owe £970 to them according to there records.
I personally think there is something wrong somewhere as although we do use electric I honestly dont know how we use nearly double or in some cases triple what some of you are. I will make sure we start unplugging things at night and will try to get this cut down. My next debt to clear will be my electric bill so I can at least then look at the price comparision services.
