  • As they say 'A fool and his money are soon parted' and I should know.
  • I cant believe how totally stupid i feel i was completely taken in by swoggi wat a scam ive wasted £50 the only reason i went on there was that it came up on my computer and i'm sure it was being endorsed by a well known news paper which is why i took a look in the 1st place..i'm so sure 1 of the papers reporters said that he bid on something to give it a go and didnt take long b4 he won his bid... people be warned this is definatly a scam.. the old adage if it sounds to good to be true it is.. do not waste your time or money you will not win.. i did the same as others on here tried it got tired of tryin to out bid. Closed my account now must find a way of getting my £50 back... maybe trading standards is place to start.. beware!!!

I wouldn't think that you have any chance of getting your money back now.
If you had asked for a refund before using the credits then you may have had a chance, but as you admit to bidding on items, it will be assumed that you were aware of what you were doing and that you accepted the terms & conditions stated on the website.

    Hi,

I too have been sucked into the £50 scam, where you enter a code for a free voucher, go through paypal to activate, no confirmation of a pending fee and then a suprise payment of £50 showing up through paypal. This was 2 days ago. I have emailed Swoggi with no luck in them changing their policy rule of refunds. Therefore I opened a claim straight away with paypal. Paypal have accepted the claim and have now refunded the £50, although they are still investigating. I think this is an end to it, so we shall wait and see. If you have been scammed this way too, then try paypal after you have tried Swoggi. Make a claim, not a dispute and describe it as an unauthorised payment which is exactly what it is. Good luck!

This is exactly correct. Don't let them retain any amount. If you genuinely didn't realise you were being charged, make a dispute with Paypal and immediately raise as a claim. Paypal will refund you, Swoggi doesn't have a say. The site clearly has shady practises and Paypal does not like this. It makes them as a company look bad. Maybe soon they'll refuse Swoggi service.

I've not been burnt myself... just wouldn't believe a site like this. I can see the temptation however. It's definitely worth checking here or other sites before parting with any cash. The whole Paypal £50 thing seems awful. Imagine how many others this happened to that haven't reported it.
  • Like an idiot I registered with SWOGGI......BIG mistake. I bought £15 (30 credits) then tried bidding.....I never won anything but something was coming up that I fancied.....to get my credits back that I used on an auction I never won I had to buy more so bought 50 quids worth (100 credits) and received 50 credits free, so in all I had 180 credits and started bidding bids cost 50p a time, then I noticed things worth £300 were being bought for £700 1 item worth just a couple of hundred went for nearly a 1000 quid. Check out the ended auctions. I never won any auctions. 2 auctions finished whilst I was watching and the bidding stopped at 16 seconds left on both auctions yet in the terms and conditions it says the auction will finish when the counter reaches ZERO this did not happen. I closed the account and now SWOGGI are saying all I am entitled back is £18.80. Yet I have not won anything.
SO TAKE A TIP STAY AWAY FROM SWOGGI.....I DO NOT BELIEVE THEY HAVE ANYTHING FORSALE I BELIEVE THE BIDDERS ARE BOTS AND SWOGGI MAKE THERE MONEY FROM YOU KEEPING BUYING AUCTION CREDITS.

    NOTE YOU WILL NEVER WIN.
  • just wanted to update you with some good news about swoggi or juniper.
I had originally used paypal to buy credits and had no idea it was a scam because it seemed like a legitimate scheme through a legitimate website in an email from moneysupermarket.com(allegedly).
As soon as I saw the posts here I contacted paypal about it.Then I contacted swoggi again who were previously saying "we cannot refund your credits as you are participating in live auctions and that would not be fair to the other bidders." I had responded to this by providing the evidence from my account that I was not.
When I advised swoggi that I had raise an action with paypal they replied by stating that they would refund me as soon as I dropped the claim. Emails back and forth led me to continue through paypals resolution centre. At first paypal had said on the phone that they couldnt help as there were no physical goods. undeterred used the tag "goods not the same as they appeared" or similar wording making it fit their categories. That started the process. At first they closed it down without evidence from the company. then I appealed, then finally I was refunded my monies.
I had 4 seperate paypal payments to swoggi/juniper, and 3 have been refunded in full. have one, the smallest amount not fully refunded because they want to take their admin fee. I will try to appeal this but that being said I have got most of my money back.
I will now be very much more careful about scam emails and web sites and will gladly use paypal again.
    :j:j:j:beer:
PS I ALSO CONTACTED THE FRAUD SQUAD AT POLICE SCOTLAND ONLINE ABOUT IT BUT HAVENT HEARD ANYTHING.
  • How come you had 4 payments to them, most of us realise we have been conned after one.
  • Me too, £50 quid up the swanny. What I would like to know is , has anyone attempted the legal route or maybe has Martin Lewis commented or offered any suggestions. I just wonder if so many are being conned and more than likely without the means to take up a legal challenge whether a mass complaint might get a mass refund? Mass complaints have worked for Wonga victims so!!!!

Just seen what appeared to be a glowing review for Swoggi accessed from a sponsored link on a reputable site. It did have the word "Advertorial" tucked away at bottom.

It's site seems to be be trying to pass itself off as MSE!

It calls itself moneyexpert360 and uses similar coloured tabs
  • Maybe it is time to get together and sue them. They have been caught doing exactly the same thing before - check out Advertising Standards Authority adjudication against Sophora Media Ltd.
Last time they got their hands smacked and told to stop doing it.
So how about we all complain to the ASA and ask that they give us 50p back for every credit we hold including the bonus ones just to remind them not to do it again?
