These are the criminal consequences for you if you adulterate your own food stored in a communal fridge to punish or catch a workplace thief

Up to you whether it's worth losing your job and going to prison for. Personally I'd go for sellotaping the box up or leaving it under your desk with your elderflower cordial until lunchtime.
That was a case of 'Whose drinking my Lucozade?'

Or possibly Powerade as subsequent accounts state.
Although it would be worth noting that whilst DC Quigley did indeed initially plead guilty, he later changed his plea, and was subsequently acquitted.

(It seems that whilst he admitted that he had indeed added screenwash to his drink stored in the office fridge, he had done so with the intention of catching the thief, and not to cause any harm.)0 -
At my work people steal milk. Completely brazenly.
I now take just a daily amount of milk needed and my lunch and leave it in a cooling bag next to my desk
I'll find it on Ebay. It was fiver I think and it is brilliant!! Take food out of the fridge at 7am and it is still little cold when I take it out at 12.
And it is pretty!! I also put cold juice in for long car journeys and took it with few can of beers to a beach when we were holidaying in Spain..0 -
Ebay item no 300835887611
Tote insulated lunch bag

What about using a lockable cash box as a lunch box? You can still keep your food in the fridge then which would be safer for the kind of food you've mentioned.

That's just an example of what I mean, there are lots of different colours and sizes available. It's a bit of an outlay, but your food will be safe and it's a lot easier than taping and untaping etc. I think lacing food with something is a bit of a grey area by the looks of the comments on here so might be best to just go the route of prevention. It's not worth losing your job over, if it went that far.0 -
Let me point out that this talk of laxatives is all by the by anyway. I recently had really bad constipation. I went to 2 chemists, and would only give me a tablet that would offer "gentle" 24 hour relief. You cannot get the strong stuff without a prescription.0

Gentle my !!!! I once took the recommended dose of Senokot, It felt like someone was dragging my innards out with a garden rake!0 -
Personally I would speak to my boss if this kept happening. I don't see why the OP should have to hide their lunch.
However, as it does keep happening I would probably go with the taping of my lunch box or something like that, some of the lunch totes you can fit a padlock between the zippy bits and if they tamper with that then you can prove it is happening to your boss. I would also keep a daily diary of what is going missing.
Are you able to pop to the fridge every now and again and check you lunch and then ask in a loud voice, funny my chicken sandwich was there at 11am and now it's gone. Then send an email asking the thief to pop to your desk as they owe you £x to pay for it, I think sandwhich shops cost about £3 for a chicken sandwhich.0 -
Put a note on your lunch box saying 'Thief beware - your DNA left on this box is now being processed to identify you'. Obviously it's a lie but they won't know that & the worry on their face may give them away!0

Someone did this when I was as school, to stop someone taking their chocolate and the thief ended up in hospital! Don't know the quantities they used, but I remember it very well, even though 40+ years have passed!
Sorry, posted this without reading all the thread.
Does anyone else in the office have their lunches tampered with? Have you spoke to your colleagues, and if so, what was their reactions?
I think the lockable cash box is a cute way to carry your lunch - it would look pretty cool and completely different - start a new trend! (hopefully the keys aren't interchangeable with others though!)0
