The link I have was to a police detective who was convicted.

    That's a different issue.

The posts I was responding to by referring to the detective related to whether a decent solicitor could get you off by saying you couldn't assume others would help yourself to your food. The detective case is bang on point for that.

The other issue is what constitutes noxious. There are other reported cases in the uk on this. I haven't got Archbold at home to give you the name of the authority on laxatives but R v Hill is one on medication generally (in that case slimming pills).

There are lots of authorities on both elements of this CRIME to make it clear to all but the most stubborn that it is a bad idea to doctor your own food in a communal fridge with anything which will make the thief feel even slightly unwell. Hot chilli sauce is ok, contaminated food not.

After careful consideration, i'm still in favor of iffy prawns. Everyone has has 'in-date' iffy prawns... Not even slightly suspicious.

Or buy a lunch bag you can lock. Something like this bag could have a suitcase lock pushed through it. http://www.allthingsforsale.com/bento-box-lunch-box/1586-high-quality-microwavable-airtight-2pcs-bento-lunch-boxes-set-lovelybluegreen-8803733754026.html

Thanks for the ideas but I don't want to harm anyone I just want to find out whos doing this. Like I said I'm making jerk chicken from scratch and I will be using 6 scotch bonnets which is very normal for me. I will however keep the food under my desk in a lunch box so lets hope I get to eat it on Tuesday.
It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun

I would make some garlic paste butties yummy :D

my husband had this problem at work he was on nightshift and dayshift would help themselves to what ever they liked, including the butter. One chap he worked with finished the butter and put a deck of cards in and one of his other colleagues mixed butter with garlic paste and alsorts of other things. Needless to say it didn't happen again.

We have a communal fridge at work and not had any problems so far. I don't look at other peoples lunches and I guess they don't look at mine either :)

I hope you find out who the culprit is.

This is what I don't get....The food is mine and however I decided to cook it is my business, so why would I be accused of going out to cause harm when I shouldn't have to put up with people stealing my food.

Seriously? You can't see why you would be accused of harm if you put laxatives or any other nasties in your food? By all means, put disgusting horrible food in....ways and means!

It isn't on someone continually stealing your food, but it also isn't on putting stuff like that in your food either.

It reminds of one of Judge Judy case where a woman put some rat poison on her property, according to the neighbour because she wanted to punish her cat for going into the neighbour's property and the cat ended up dead.

The woman claimed that she wasn't responsible because it was her property and she could do what she wanted and it isn't her fault the cat walked on her property and got ill.

Judge Judy didn't agree with her and said that she caused death to the cat with intent and therefore she was responsible.

Well, I'd say b******s to that. Laxatives aren't nasty: they are a perfectly acceptable medication that some people and not others need to take. ( I'm a girly but occasionally drink real ale: I've recommended White Shield before now to my Mum who _does_ need laxatives). They have no long lasting effects. Even Picolax, which I mentioned above, doesn't cause long term problems - it causes very short term problems actually, and when I had to take it I was within 3 yards of the loo!

Going to the loo is not causing harm, it's actually a very human function, although it would seem a few people here are like The Queen and don't even fart.

I agree the thread is quite split: between those whose world view is such that they are likely to spend time in prison at some point in their lives, and those who instinctively know what is the right thing to do (whatever the provocation)!

Fortunately the OP whose lunch is the one being pinched isn't in the jailbird category :)

But laxatives can cause terrible stomach cramping. Really painful. I have to take them regularly due to the after effects of radiotherapy and I've been in agony at times after using them.
