I don't go to the gym anymore due to the cost (I now run and play squash!) but when I was a member, I had to go straight from work without thinking about it too much. The second I thought about my workout, I'd find some kind of excuse and end up not going.
Once you get in to it, you feel terrible not going!
My gym is very good value (£16.99 per month - open 24hrs) hence why I joinedI'd been trying the cheap option of running/jogging but I wasn't motivated and only went on 2 runs
I totally agree with you on going straight from work. I finished at 17:30 yesterday, had a class at 18:30 and it took all my effort when I got home to make myself go! I'll start finishing at 5 in a few weeks so I'm going to take my gym kit to work and get changed either at work or at the gym.
just reminded me I need to start jogging again!! But I would say joining a local sports club is usually cheap monthly subs and a great way to meet new people and keep fit (I play hockey) rather than paying out for fitness vids / equipment. I remember somewhere hearing that the most recycled equipment was old gym/sports stuff though so if you are dedicated can probably pick that up cheap somewhere!
There used to be a running club that met up outside the gym which was run by one of the PTs. I don't know if they still do it, but it would be great if they did. They have a running club at my work but they're far to advanced for me (also they go during their lunch hour - madness!)0 -
I've been doing Insanity for just over a week now, brilliant. I wouldnt say its OTT on excercises. Definately feeling alot fitter!, not gasing out as much and drink water regularly. Tony Horton's workouts look alot more intense, especially with equipment.0

So after posting in this thread a few days ago about how much I'm loving Insanity...I take it all back!
I've just finished the first week of the second month and I've seriously hit a wall. I was really enjoying the work outs until the last few days but suddenly it's started to feel so repetitive and I'm getting bored. If I have to do one more hip flexor stretch I might scream!
I haven't seen dramatic results yet either but maybe my expectations were too high. I don't want to give up when I'm so close to the end, but I'm finding it hard to get motivated to carry on.
Has anyone else who' done Insanity felt like this and how did you get through it? I desperately need some motivation!0 -
I think a lot of people have very high expectations of Insanity. I got through it by being determined that I wasn't going to be a quitter
The hip flexor stretches are important because they loosen up your entire lower body. More flexibility = less injuries

Hi there, I can totally relate to those posters who find it all too easy to skip going to the gym after work - I was exactly the same but I found going first thing in the morning, before work, to be much easier. OK, it's a bit horrible having to get up extra early but once you are there it's just a case of powering through the workout, quick shower then off to work. Then the whole rest of the day is yours --- this really works for me, I love it. There are always the same people there at 0630 too, you see the same people all the time so it's pretty friendly, much more so than in the evening .............0

I thought about doing Insanity, but the idea of it terrifies me!
Besides, its very expensive at about £100, that's about 3 months worth of my gym membership, and how do you maintain that level of work once the programme has finished?
I am currently going to the gym 4x a week and am also thinking about doing some HIIT in between, when I get time.0 -
The MetaFit chap at my place is an insanity trainer. Metafit is £3.50 a class so perhaps go down the Metafit route - its probably the same person who does both anywayThe Cabbage

Do they not do HIIT classes at your gym? Mine do metafit, insanity, thump boxing which has HIIT style exercises in it, grit cardio and fat burn extreme, plus classes like circuits, super circuits
Personally I wouldnt pay £100 for the insanity dvds0 -

Yes, they do, but I cant go any more regularly than I already do, so cant do any.
Besides, I want to get a bit fitter before I attempt those!0
