That's my problem since moving to a new city. I've made some friends, but none of them want to come to the gym with me. I could go with my OH but I know we'd just get on each others nerves! Sometimes you need time on your own!
I know people who've moved city and built good groups of friends at BMF classes. Not cheap, but the fact you quite often have to do stuff in pairs - and the collective feeling of "suffering together" seems to build friendships pretty well.0 -

Sorry to ask a stupid question, but what are BMF classes?0 -

I did Insanity. Lost a dress size and kept it off...but only got through it because I prepared for it with other workouts, and maintained the loss because it got my confidence up enough to be in the gym 4-5 times a week now
My thread is on the Health and Beauty forum somewhere.
If you're not exercising at all at the moment, I would give something like 30 Day Shred a go first, or you will either not push yourself with Insanity, or you will throw up and be very sore!!
Personally, I loved it

So I decided to rejoin the gym yesterday!
They sent me a promotional bank holiday offer of a £5 joining fee and 1 free personal training session. I'm going for my induction after work today.
My SIL was visiting over the weekend and she does look good (then again, she's slim and has a good figure in general). She said she was enjoying Insanity, but she went on a business trip/caught a bug and ended up missing a week, so now it's like starting all over again. I'm not sure if it's the right workout for me. I'm pretty much starting from zero fitness wise!
A friend posted a "30 day abs" timetable of exercises on FB. I'm going to try and give that a go. It's mainly sit ups, planks etc. The challenge starts on 1st June, if anyone wants to give it a try (timetable can be found online).
I've had a personal trainer previously and enjoyed it, but it's so expensive! The PT at my gym are £35-£40 per session. I'm hoping to set up my free session asap and get some sort of idea of a gym program I can follow.
My OH has a fancy set of weighing scales in the bathroom that measure your body fat so the family all tried them at the weekend...
Shocked me into rejoining the gym!0 -
If you are starting from zero, I wouldn't recommend Insanity - you won't be able to move after Day 2 and may also vomit (that's what happened to my friend!)
Go with gym and some 30-day challenges

They do stand alone insanty classes in some gyms rather than following a course or program. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

I don't like the sound of that! I think I'll stick to the gym in that case lol. They do stand alone insanty classes in some gyms rather than following a course or program.
They've got lots of free classes on, so I'm going to try a few. I used to do legs, bums & tums/circuts/zumba at my previous gym. They have some Tabata (sp?) style workouts which I think is similar to Insanity?
If I go to one class per week at least it'll be worth my membership fee0 -
I tried the Insanity Day 1 Fitness Tests and I ached for about 4 days afterwards!! Needless to say I didn't make it to any other days
Also, an MSE way of trying Insanity (as I did!) is to watch on YouTube! Lots of users post videos of themselves completing the workout so you just copy them. Granted, they may not be doing the correct technique and may have bad form, but if you just want a taster it's a great way to try in the comfort of your own home. You can also hear the voice of the trainer on the DVD in the background and it's motivating because you want to beat the person you are watching!!
I don't tend to stick things out very well (as I've just proved!!) but I do try the 30 day challenges posted on FB, or even Instagram has become my new best friend. There are loads of users who post short videos of exercise programmes that can be done at home or at the gym, diet tips or even just motivational quotes. I've found them really helpful and looking at their slim and toned physiques just makes me want to work harder!0
