Come on Nobby. You know what he was talking about. We all know there are exceptions, but, as UAE implied, on a free flowing motorway, people doing 40, when everyone else is doing 70 (or the vehicle's equivalent of the speed limit) then the traffic police will take an interest.
That's the problem with trying to impose a minimum, it could never be done as the conditions change within seconds. As to the moped argument, they're limited to 30, not 40, so again, not valid. (Unless the moped has pedals, as mine did, in which case the speed wasn't, and still isn't limited, mine was happy at around 50, but I still couldn't take it on a motorway)0 -
50? On a moped? Well done! I thought I was doing well getting 75 out of my 125 Intruder!
(You must have been pedalling like mad to get it there tho)

There's no legal minimum speed. In fact, the blue minimum speed signs are very rare. I remember seeing them at the Blackwall tunnel (10mph), but I'm not sure if they are still there.
Police and HA will take an interest in slow-moving vehicles on fast roads, but the most likely outcome is an escort, not a ticket, if the low speed has a reasonable explanation.0 -

I passed an old routemaster style bus on the motorway at the weekend. What do they do, about 40 to 50mph? Didn't seem to be drawing police though.0 -

Not entirely true, mopeds are all supposed to be limited to 30mph (even since 1977!) because that's what the "AM" licence entitlement permits. The fact that many are capable of much more and can easily be derestricted if you're permitted to ride it is neither here nor there.
I assume you're on about the FS1E?0 -

You can still ride a pre 77 unrestricted moped, so long as the pedals are fitted, ones after that time are restricted to 30, and the pedal option wasn't required. Even on a new licence.0 -

Nice loophole then. Reminds me of "side winders" ... i.e. being able to fit the loose/flappy wheel on the side of any motorbike and riding on 'L' plates at the age of 17 ... because it's a "three wheeler". I wonder if that's been closed up0 -
