So what would you do if the 'slow' vehicle(s) are doing around 65mph - you are doing a genuine 70mph and the traffic coming up behind are doing somewhere around 80mph.

    Simple.

Lane one (or two) until 200 yards or so behind the 'slow' vehicle, indicate and pull out into lane two (or three).

The 80mph speeders in lane two (or three) can slow down.

Pass 'slow' vehicle (or vehicles), and pull back to lane one (or two).

    Rinse and repeat.

    Exactly what I do.

Just thought I'd mention the stupid woman the other day who was doing 30mph on the motorway offslip (M27 -> M3) before deciding that she didn't want to turn off before cutting across the solid hatchings (a good distance in) and right into my path causing me to slam on my breaks (was doing 60mph..) and then continuing to do 30!! Caused a tailback for several miles from speaking to my colleague who was a few mins behind me!

She'll be rotting in jail now though.

Was stuck behind someone doing 30 in a 60 zone yesterday, at the first opportunity to overtake, they slammed their foot on the accelerator in some weird attempt to make it as hard as possible for me? Anyone care to explain the logic in that?

Nobby, I reckon it's something you would do, so go ahead...

Forcing other road users to slow down is bad driving. Also simple.

If you're doing this regularly and deliberately, to cars that are not far behind you, you are a dangerous menace, and I hope you are caught and they throw the book at you.

People speeding is not an excuse for dangerous driving.

Quite common. I think about how good the other vehicle's acceleration is likely to be before overtaking drivers like this to ensure I'm not caught short.

If it's some tiny buzzbox, I'm not worried, but if it's a car that's faster than mine, I use caution.

Drivers really shouldn't have to think about this sort of thing, but in the real world you just don't know if the person you're overtaking is a psycho.

    This!

If someone chooses to speed, that is a decision they make, albeit a dangerous one. It is the polices job to police the roads. It is not your job to force people to slow down by either heavily braking or driving unnecessarily slowly.

Someone speeding is just as bad someone slowing intentionally to stop people speeding.

It was a little hatchback, that said I'm in a small hatchback as well with a diesel engine :rotfl: Dropped it down and floored it, but as I was going past they were actively speeding up and by the time I was in front they were doing at least 60.

I'm afraid I am guilty of this quite often. I live in a rural area and I'm astonished by the number of roads around here that classify as 60, yet are extremely narrow and winding. I know the people in 4WDs behind me can get annoyed but my car isn't as stable and if I were to meet someone head on my bonnet would be the one that concertinaed.
