driving slow : your views ?

AFAICS some Police think they are a law unto themselves.
But to answer your actual question - I think they are allowed some latitude when "on a shout". However, as has been mentioned, that doesn't necessarily mean "blues & twos".0 -
Yep, I know they don't always use blues 'n' twos. But if they're not on a shout ( as per my example ), then they should stick to the limit in theory ?0

That's clever.... Not.
Just as selfish as the tailgater in my opinion.
If you are being tailgated in traffic then the recommended action is to slow down to ensure that you have no need to brake hard - create a larger stopping distance in front.
I got tailgated by a lorry through a 50mph motorway road works - he'd just had a major hard shoulder excursion too, and he was about 2 metres off my back bumper, all I could see was grill. Tried hazards, didn't back off, tried flash of brake lights (without slowing, left foot) no response, so then gently eased speed down and then sped back up to 50 as his acceleration so I made my space and left him to work his way back up through the gears, he didn't catch up again.
The point is to slow down very gently, not to brake test them.0 -
As I said before, you cannot cherry-pick from the HWC.
You have an option to overtake, within the prevailing speed limit, if it is safe to do so and doesn't cause problems for other road users.
No cherry picking, and you just expanded on what I said - that all comes under 'if it's safe to do so'. I'm not accusing you of this, but some people just get so offended when they're being overtaken, as if they're driving at the ONLY speed allowed.0 -

... maybe even accelerate a little god forbid!
your best of on the buss, sit at the front so folk can keep a eye on you.0 -
so tell us more of "your" opinion, what would you do if being tailgated?
perhaps your views might get the hwc re-written.............not.
However, if I was being tailgated in the outside lane of a dual carriageway, I would move over at the first opportunity to let them past. It's not your job to be a speed enforcement officer. If someone wants to speed, it's up to them. You should not take it upon yourself to be judge, jury and executioner.0 -
If I'm being tailgated at 60mph in a single lane road, I will stick at 60mph. You are not doing anything wrong, it is there responsibility to drive safely. You can't police the world and slowing down is a great way to cause more aggravation.

yes you are doing wrong, (not illegal, but wrong), it is every road users responsibility to have due care to yourself and others. aggravation aside, safety comes 1st.
I don't, and neither should you, that is why we have the hwc, the highway code booklet I assume you have read, is only a general guide, there is a much more detailed book that explains every aspect of the hwc in detail.
there are also other books that detail the rules of your chosen method of transport clearly for you, may it be car bike or horse. happy reading.0 -

So either you're driving too slowly for the conditions in the first place, or you're now happy to drive faster than you were previously comfortable with, because you now think the car behind should be setting your pace, and they're faster than you?0
