Hi All
Updating to say DDs 103 got her into Banbridge Academy. She is over the moon. She is the only one from her school, but half of Dromore hockey is going with her, so she will feel right at home
We are SO relieved as she had it as second choice, but had recently changed her mind about the order of her schools, saying she preferred it to what she had picked as 1st choice and that she would have wanted 3rd choice further down the list. We were panicking in case she miraculously got 1st choice or was bumped out to 3rd choice. Just didn't want to see a disappointed little face this morning............Can breathe again now though!
Now we've all got to start saving for the uniforms lol!0 -

Didn't that work out well - great news
Which school had she put down as 1st choice?0 -
@ flymetothemoon she had put Friends down, which we always knew was a long shot with 103, but we had put in for special circumstances due to bullying (which included a parent of another child berating DD in public, reducing her to tears for not speaking up for herself the day before 2nd AQE)
It was for that reason we bothered to put Friends on the form at all, as we knew a pure 103 wasn't enough, but either they decided special circumstances didn't apply, or whatever score they decided she would have achieved still wasn't enough.
We knew that based on past 4 years 103 would be enough for Banbridge Academy, where they don't band, but go down by individual mark. However one year 102 was the cut off mark, so you never can be sure.......increase in popularity, higher scores in the area, higher birth rate in the area etc could push it up. We are simply so grateful she got in and is happy.
Even if she is one of the lowest marks to be accepted, that doesn't worry me. I teach in a grammar school, and my highest performing student at A level this year was on a waiting list for our school and was only accepted in Yr 9 when a place was vacated by another student. Scores are simply to get them in the door. What has more of an impact is the effort they make once they get there.0 -
Anyone else hear Grosvenor's score way down this year? I've not heard what to but heard someone with a score in the 80's got in0

Hi aqeworrier. My son got into Grosvenor with a score of 109. The previous 4 years of minimum AQE scores have been 103/104, making it one of the hardest AQE schools to get into. I have heard that the minimum score was up slightly this year to 105. It would be highly unlikely to have dropped by 20 marks, unless the child had an educational statement or had special circumstances applied.
I am going up on Tuesday morning with the forms so may cheekily ask!0 -
Hi, new to this thread!
So glad to have this whole process finally over and thankfully my dd got her 1st choice school 😀 two of her friends got Grosvenor with 98 and 99 (without special circumstances) so quite a drop from previous years....maybe a lot more girls applied for Strathearn this year taking their cut off up to 107 before going to criteria?0 -
hi heard that 14 kids outta my sons class got into BRA they ranged from 99 up to 125.
the rest of his class were going to Ballyclare high and Belfast high.
transport does anybody know if you have to drive you child to school can you get assistance or do they just issue you with bus passes as there is no direct way of my son to get to his chosen school0 -
Hi m-u-m
If your son is entitled to a bus pass, you can claim it and then surrender it back to DENI who will pay you around £600 for it. It can only be done by one member of the family. A lot of kids in 6th form do it to help towards car insurance.0 -
wow really i didn't know that you learn something new everyday
how do you go about doing that.0 -
I think there's a form available from your education board. You complete it and return the bus pass. I think it has to be done by October but I've never done it so can't be sure. The policy on transport is under review at the minute so it could change.0
