Fingers crossed for yous that your son gets his 1st choice. It is difficult when a child only wants one school.
Is his score/grade higher than needed by the school in previous years?
I am a bit anxious now too, will be so glad to get this over with tomorrow.
Best wishes to everybody for tomorrow x0 -
Just wanted to wish everyone the best for your kids tomorrow.
I'll b glad when it's all over0 -
We won't know until tomorrow evening what school our daughter gets into, because we are both working tomorrow and will be gone before the post arrives
The suspense is gonna kill us...0 -
Hi fly me to the moon my son go 8 marks above the lowest score but the are taking the gl scores this year for the fist so that will bump up the scores I'm so stressed hurry up post man0
-
m-u-m your son shouldn't have a problem getting in with a score 8 above the usual minimum I can't imagine any schools minimum scores jumping up by that amount! We're similar my sisters score is 7 above the schools usual minimum but there's still that small fear until you read it in black and white! We don't think we'll be getting our post to 11-12 Good Luck Everyone:hello: Animals are my friends...and I don't eat my friends:EasterBun0

Morning m-u-m
With an 8 point lead, I think your son will have nothing to worry about. As Veggie NI has said, it is most unlikely that the score to get into any school will rise by 8 marks. A few large variations occurred in the first few years of AQE/GL but now that the system has bedded in, scores have not fluctuated by more than a few marks in most schools. So I am optimistic for yous !
P.S. My own DS has only 4 points more than the previous highest for his 1st choice school - I'll be shocked if that's not enough0 -
well ds is totally gutted got his second preference choice
anybody know how to appeal the school choice0 -

OMG - that is such a shock, I am so so sorry. I know the disappointment as my DD got her 2nd choice school 4 yrs ago even though her score was higher than the lowest score accepted by her 1st choice school the previous year. As it turned out, she was 1 point below the cut off in her year and would have sailed in the following year - so frustrating
Do you know what the highest score ever needed for first choice school has been throughout the past 5 years?0 -

So the highest year to gain entry was 2011 with a score of 97 - that was the year my DD was pipped from her first choice school and I know from looking into it at he time that it was a year of higher scores for a number of schools. They put it down to the high birth rate in her year - the so called 'millenium babies'. As a result, her first choice school got an exceptionally high number of applications that year and ended up turning away about 120 kids, the previous year they only turned away about 40 kids. It was sheer bad luck for us.
So if your 1st choice has risen significantly this year, either they have had a much higher number of applications (possibly due to inviting GL applicants for the 1st time) or the standard across all kids sitting the tests this year has risen
If your son's score is in the 90s I would appeal if I were you - you have nothing to lose.0
