When mine was installed a few weeks ago, it did have to be connected to an active phone line to avoid an extra £25 charge. However, the line did not have to be BT - we're with Virgin, ex Telewest. As soon as they'd gone, I unplugged the phone connection, apparently they only check it if you have multiroom according to AV Forums. I am stuck with a wire going around the kitchen, which is the room we wanted Sky in, but they did do a neat job of tacking it in. I suppose I could pull it out if I could be bothered!

buyitall-thanks so did they put the wire in so that you could have it in your kitchen from the phone line? Do you not need the wire now?

We have virgin too and I did check first that I didn't need a bt line for it so that's ok. If our only option is to have it downstairs it would be ok and I will cancel virgin as we still have that at the mo. But was going to keep virgin(and try and get a new deal) if we could have the freesat upstairs.

Yes, we also have Virgin in the living room and like you, got the Sky for a different room, in our case the kitchen, because it was cheaper than getting a new aerial and we prob can't get Freeview anyway. They just ran a wire from the phone connection to where we wanted the tv in the kitchen. There were no probs telling the engineer to install in whichever room we wanted.

The only thing that is delivered is a letter with a code on it. you then ring Sky with the code to arrange an installation date.

All I got for the sky was a letter with a naumber to call and a reference number to quote to get it installed. I have had no problems so far, I got through pretty quickly and they are coming out to fit it tommorow.

Oh and I recieved my veiwing card saturday through the post

I didn't get a free gift, but someone on a forum said that the letter with the code was inside the free gift box (in that case the dvd player), so don't throw out the packaging before you've checked first!
