Bought more than I really needed when I went shopping yesterday as had a £4.50 voucher off a £30 spend which I wanted to use so topped up some store cupboard stuff. Spent £22.60 in Mr Ts and £25.72 in Morries. Total spend to date is now £88.59/£250.

Not many people seem to do calendar month but from pay days so I guess that's why.
    I'm a calendar month gal :D

My pay (widow's pension) day is 'the next to last working day of the month' (apart from December, when it's up to a week early which I don't actually like!), so there's really not that much difference for me :rotfl:

And I run all my other budgets by calendar months as that's how often D/Debits are taken, so it seems easier to run this one the same.

But I try and keep up with the thread for the next month once it appears, as I wouldn't bother back-tracking once I move over which could mean I miss something extra useful / helpful !!

When I worked I've had pay days of 'every Thursday', 'last working day of the month'. 15th of month (or last working day before that), and every 4th Friday - depending on company I was working for or the grade I was at. Hated the every 4th Friday as it was hard keeping track of when it was due in, but as long as I could make a 4 week pay cheque last a calendar month it did mean I had an entire pay cheque for myself at some point in the year (holiday, Christmas or savings) ;)

i usually run my GC month pay day to pay day - i get paid on the 25th or nearest working day. I'm actually considering moving my DDs to the day after that so that they all go out just after pay comes in then i hope to have a clearer picture of what i have left each month.

just about to get myself and wonder bairn dressed and ready to go to the market/up to town as we need:
    *to collect bf's prescription (free)
    *cereal bars for bf
*dried fruit, some flaked almonds, dried apricots, cheap milk choc - making flapjacks for bf (different budget)
    *hair gel for bf
    *bacon
    *chicken kievs
    * some more fruit

lets see how we get on...

I get paid last Friday in the month and hubby is last working day but all our direct debits go out on the 1st and my grocery/ petrol account gets topped up on the first f the month too. So even if we get paid a few days earlier we try to not touch it til the 1st although sometimes this can't be avoided! In December we both get paid early (sometimes upper to 10 days earlier) and hubby puts it into our savings account so we can't touch it!!! January is always a tight month for us as a lot of annuals go out for us and hubby knows we would have spent most of it before January!! Lol :rotfl:

  • Hi I'm new and desperate to save some money. There is me, husband, our son (18 months) and our ancient (14) dog. Oh, and the fish, I almost forgot. It just seems that the groceries cost more and more each week and well I've had enough now.

So from today I'm setting a target of £300 from today until 3rd of July.

Does anyone buy a large joint and use it throughout the week? I've just bought a gammon joint and I'm intending it to do 3 meals and hopefully some sandwiches. As long as I can hide it from DH and DS who will eat the lot in 1 sitting given the chance.

Today I have spent £22.48 so far at the local butcher/grocer and pet shop. I'll have to do the supermarket for the rest later/ tomorrow.

I have also decided that any saving made this month are buying new pjs for DS. I must stay motivated.

    All ideas welcome!

The only joint I ever buy these days is gammon. I do them in my slow cooker (even the cheapest joints then fall apart when you put a fork in them, and they never seem to taste of salt), then normally do for a meal with veg 'today', and once cool I chop (can't say slice due to the way they fall apart) the rest before bagging and freezing in meal sized portions. All the small straggly bits get bagged together and used for a risotto.

Aiming for a NSD today as I am not going to the shop.

Pork loin steaks with mash, carrots, green beans and peas for tea with gravy. Followed by fruit salad. Can you tell I am trying to up my fruit and veg intake?:rotfl:

I did a meal plan for June before I went on holiday but it needs to be tweaked a little and I need to write a shopping list for the first week to buy this weekend which I will toddle off and do now.
