Can you not go to your friends another time once this is all sorted out? They you won't feel like you've had to make a rushed decision which you obviously feel uncomfortable about. Most friends would 100% understand."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
nope saturday 15th i had a offer the same day for my car..difference maybe that the other partys insurance phoned me direct and have sorted everyting...i only had to notify my insurance so i dont even have a excess to pay..i think its relatively new for the other party to deal with it, but seems so much quicker they did not even look at my car, but as it was undrivable and quite old i think it was a obvious write off. not having new car inspected just have to take a reasonable male with me to have a good look, i have managed to get a car one year newer than what i had so not done too bad.steampunkmimi wrote: »I take it this was a week last Saturday? Are you having the car you intend to purchase inspected, or has it already been inspected? We've already looked around online, but without a starting point (the figure from the insurance), we really cannot proceed. Thanks for the perspective, by the way. Much appreciated.goal for 2014....i will manage money better ..must resist shopping..............:A0 -

Steam, there are some complete and utter morons on this site, many of who'm appear to have posted on this thread. The trick is to ignore them as they're just looking for a reaction. Deal with the people who help only and they soon melt away to p*** off someone else.
My advice would be to ring the insurance company every hour and completely badger them, try and speak to the same person every time, ask for their direct number if possible. Become an annoyance and they'll get you sorted quickly, it really worked for me.Pants0 -

But trying to find a decent replacement at that sort of price is a minefield, particularly in a hurry. I would guess jmhgibson123 had a budget of 5 or 10 times that to spend, so that's why he could buy the first one he saw without as much risk.
not really i had a 55 plate fiesta and trust me finding something local of a similar size and age with a decent milage is hard, this is what people dont see if you only get a few hundred pound for a old car that has been well looked after, you can only get another old banger that you know nothing about its a very unfair process especially when it is not your fault! whatever price op gets for his car will not compensate for losing a car that they have had for a long time and looked after ...i wish car insurance was like home ins..new for old!goal for 2014....i will manage money better ..must resist shopping..............:A0 -
To above OP is not helping herself!!!
She must know by checking Parkers, what car, we buy any car how much will be a "fair" price for her car.
She can NOW start looking for replacement on line if not loacal visits.
She can see, buy and drive away with 7 day insurance in a day if she gets act together.
I am sure her bank would allow overdraft for 2/3 days if situation is explained in person at branch with proof of problem.
OP just wants a magic fairy to appear and put a "new" car on drive with no effort on her behalf.
PS Fairies do not exist!!!0 -

No courtesy car because the insurance co refused one when they realised the car was driveable.........
That sounds reasonable
If you cannot get a car off them under your policy after they take your car for salvage and prior to getting your settlement cheque then you can hire one yourself and add the cost to your uninsured losses claim off the third party.
But only expect them to pay for it for 7 days after you get the cheque!0 -

Do you have ANY idea how much insurance premiums would be if any car with damage had to be replaced with a new one!!!!
I would guess something like £10,000 per year.
Just think of the number of car claims vs house insurance claim numbers.0
