Rear-end shunt.. not our fault..now what?

A lot of tripe from the usual "drop your pants and take it" posters. We had a car written off by a third party before a holiday. We claimed the entire cost of the holiday back, and all other consequential damages, compensation, plus personal injury. Get an accident management company involved, and pursue the third party for all your costs.0

the internet is a great tool for finding a car, i had a accident on saturday...the other party (at fault) insurance has sorted it out they have hired me a car for the week and i have the money for my write off in the bank today, have got a test drive booked for tomorrow morning and all being well will have my new car by friday...it can be done pretty quick like i say use autotrader and parkers online to help find a car, it really can be done with so much less fuss that trailing every local garage.goal for 2014....i will manage money better ..must resist shopping..............:A0

I take it this was a week last Saturday? Are you having the car you intend to purchase inspected, or has it already been inspected? We've already looked around online, but without a starting point (the figure from the insurance), we really cannot proceed. Thanks for the perspective, by the way. Much appreciated.0 -

You keep making this point.
But you are mistaken to go about it this way.
As previously posted, find out the cost to replace your car!
You are being naive to say you cannot do anything till your insurer tells you - it's not unknown for insurers to make a low initial offer.
So be prepared and get your research done now so you are in a position to argue your case.0 -
I was going to suggest that you cancel you holiday (& get back as much money as you can & put that towards a new car), but as your only going to friends for holiday you aren't losing money by postponing it.
As have said tell us what car you had & we can get an approx value you have to spend0 -

A 14 year old car with two weeks MOT left? It'll be a fight to get more than few hundred pounds. When it's scrapped, make sure you keep the tax disc. But trying to find a decent replacement at that sort of price is a minefield, particularly in a hurry. I would guess jmhgibson123 had a budget of 5 or 10 times that to spend, so that's why he could buy the first one he saw without as much risk.0 -
No further replies needed, thanks.0

If neither insurance company nor other party are interested, we may have to sue them for everything we can. I will not have our lives turned upside down because some idiot cannot drive without due care and attention.
Lol!
Nothing like someone having a rant over something they can do NOTHING about!0 -

We don't have a hire car, either. Which is something we were curious about: how are we supposed to go and look for a replacement vehicle if they take our write-off in exchange for the money?
Why haven't you got a hire car? Nothing concentrates an insurance companies mind like a daily rising bill when it comes to sorting out a settlement.0
