I applied for the account at 8am today and received an email at 11.30am advising my application had been approved.
Dear
Thank you for applying for one of our M&S current accounts. We’re delighted to tell you that your application has been successful.
In the next few days you’ll receive a pack containing important information about your new account including a copy of the terms and conditions. Please take the time to read these documents. We recommend that you keep them somewhere safe for future reference. This pack will also contain a signature form and an agreement form for you to sign. Please read these carefully before signing and return them to us as soon as possible so we can open your account and you can start to enjoy new-fashioned banking.
As soon as we’ve received your signed forms, we’ll send you everything you need to run your account, starting with your new M&S Visa debit card.
We hope you enjoy being part of M&S Bank and new-fashioned banking. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us on the telephone number below.
Yours sincerely

Once documentation all completed will arrange to switch one of my other bank accounts.0 -
True, the T&Cs are straight forward. Remember thought you have to call (phone or in person in Branch) to initiate the switch. The conversation will probably be a great deal easier if you can truthfully tell them that you are switching an account which has all sorts of activity and DDs
Was the application process quite intrusive, asking the name and address of your employer etc? Isn't it fraudulent to provide them with false information such as "Homemaker", as previously suggested?
When you called them for the switch, were they asking lots of questions about the account you wanted to switch? I thought they just sent you a form.
Not sure this one will be worth the hassle for me!0 -
You must have misunderstood, I never suggested that anyone make false statements in their application.
There is no form to fill in for the switch, you need to phone them about it or call into a Branch.0 -

I have selected my Nationwide account for the switch. However I have no standing orders or direct debits going out of the account. Also I just make random credits into the account. Would this be a problem for the switch.
Perhaps it may be an idea to set up a few standing orders and a direct debit just to keep them happy.0 -
I have no idea whether they would object to accounts that have no DDs or SOs at all. The T&Cs don't demand any but it would be quite unusual for most 'proper' current accounts not to have any SOs or DDs at all. And there would not be much point to ask for a switching service if no DDs/SOs exist. So it may be just as well to play nicely and have at least some SOs for them to switch.0

Does anyone have this account up & running yet? I am thinking of applying for one, but unlike most of you, I may actually use it lol. BUT, I need to know, whether the "internet banking" involves having to have a mobile phone (ie they text you a code when you want to do certain things like add a new payee or set up a SO). I have a Santander current account which requires this (converted from an old A&L) and it drives me mad because I live in a remote area with no mobile reception.
So - is the M&S internet banking free from the tyranny of mobile phone texts, DAK?They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -
If your only issue is mobile phone reception, you could open a Club Lloyds instead. They use either mobile or landline to confirm certain transactions. Unlike M&S, they pay interest and also give you access to a nice 4% Monthly Saver. The application process at Lloyds is fast (not something you could say for M&S), the website and mobile app is modern (not sure about M&S), and if you need a Branch, Lloyds have hundreds, not just 37.
Similar applies to TSB
Lloyds don't pay a joining bonus but since that isn't your reason for changing it doesn't matter. Or you could switch to M&S for the voucher, and then to Lloyds (or TSB). Or set yourself up with an account that is just for switching purposes.0 -
I received confirmation of my acceptance for an account this morning after applying yesterday evening. So my next question do I need to wait until I receive my welcome pack to initiate the switch of my old account?GC: Feb (16th Jan - 15th Feb) £46.25 / £50
Mar (16th Feb - 15th Mar) £61.96 / £700 -

However, they probably won't start the switch yet unless you select a date which is at least a couple of weeks away because you wouldn't be able to get at your cash until you have online access and/or your debit card.0 -
I have spoken to the Switching team today and they confirm it does not matter if you have no standing orders or direct debits to switch. The only condition is the account is closed.0
