Thank you for applying for one of our M&S current accounts. We’re delighted to tell you that your application has been successful.

Now to wait for forms in the post that need to be signed and sent back.

Is this new-fashioned banking actually pre-historic banking!

The account with fees has other benefits as well if you keep it for a year: several M&S vouchers/ treats as well as the tea/ coffee ones and if you can save up to £250 a month their monthly saver account ( which I believe you can only access if you have a fee paying current account) pays 6% over the year. If you shop there anyway it's an account worth considering.http://bank.marksandspencer.com/banking/premium-current-account/overview/#summary

May be, if you shop there anyway (is regular shopping at M&S really MSE?).

But otherwise it is a massively overpriced way to get access to a 6% regular saver account. First Direct do a 6% account with up to £300/mth for free, for instance.

So to clarify, is the best deal with this to get the premium account, pocket the £150 vouchers then downgrade to the standard account after 3 months, incurring £30 in fees?

    I think it is, yes.

Apart from the call to downgrade the Premium account, you're going to be going through exactly the same account opening process for each.

Make sure you don't accidentally apply for the Premium current a/c with insurance.

Can you use a Tesco Internet Saver account for the switch to gain £100 in vouchers?

Account switching services are only available for current accounts, so no.

why is it no mater with account I'm applying for there is always a question that leaves me perplexed.

How much do you expect these other credits to total?

is that the total of each credit , the total value of credits in a week ,or a month, or a year , or a lifetime.

I know ive moaned about this before but it asked me my employment status , drown down menu , select self employed. then it asked for employers name , its like beating your head against a brick wall.

I said £500 and have left it to them to figure out whether that's per day, week, month, year or any other timescale they wish to use for it. I think you can probably avoid answering this Q if you don't specify any other expected deposits.

Use your own name, or just select "Home maker" or "At home"? I think I used "At home" because none of the other options seemed to be correct.

When I get that question I just repeat 'Self-employed'.

Perhaps writing it as 'SELF-EMPLOYED!' might help them get the message.
