    Somebody doesn't get it. I don't think it's us.

What you seem not to understand is that we do all "get" your point of view. We think it shallow, vindictive and petty, but - yes, we "get" it.

I love liberals who think they are so "cool" and "right on" - yeah baby, you have thousands of pounds worth of goods for free - yeah groovy. I love giving stuff away for nothing. Groovy baby. I am so right on baby. You irritate me, and I give you everything for free because I am groovy and down with the kids. Share my lentils baby.

Can you give me £2k worth of stuff for free please? I take it the answer is no. Of course it is no. Because in reality, you don't give people £2k worth of stuff for free. Only on internet fantasy world.

"you're so vindictive, not giving people £2k worth of free stuff because they asked for it".

    You're nuts.

Do you still have the "£2k-worth" of stuff? No. So what's the difference to you, as to whether you gave it to the bin men or to the buyer of your property? Nothing at all.

the difference is - the buyers were pi55 takers and wanted it for free - and they didn't get it for free. they had to pay for it. That is the difference.

Do what I do - give them all away then spend the next few years wondering why you are such a t**t!
Not talking of tat either ... last place fridge/freezer (nearly new), nice range cooker, some (6) beautiful expensive light fittings (couldn't be a*sed taking them down...) etc.
As for what I took to the tip and gave away to my kids ... just shoot me

So we're in agreement that there is no financial difference to you, right?
And we're also in agreement that the only difference is your petty self-satisfaction in having destroyed something perfectly usable, solely in order to make some shallow point?

Some people know the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

no- there is financial gain to me. lets say flat was worth £100k. If i let them keep them for free, they would have got a £102k worth for £100k. So I am £2k down. This way, they got £100k worth for £100k so I am even.

Great. So we're agreed on the sole benefit being an intangible to your state of mind.

Sorry, but didn't we just agree there was no financial difference at all?

You're not down £2k - in any way, shape or form - because there was never any suggestion of anybody ever paying £2k for some second-hand curtains. They were worth £2k when you bought them, but they had a very steep depreciation curve. Unless somebody is willing to pay £2k for something, then it is not worth £2k. One buyer, one seller - that is the only definition of "worth" that means anything.

I am taking everything bar one pair of curtains! Even my lovely curtain poles.

If I am unable reuse the curtains as curtains they will make an excellent throw with the tabs cut off and mended.

The value is not in the curtain - it is in the cost of replacement.

I asked £500 for what would cost them £2k. They refused to pay £500 and instead paid £2k.

Hence I am not down. They however, are at least £1.5k down.

And before you say - perhaps they didn't want them - they did want them, but for free. They, like you, thought they had no value, because they were the only buyer. They failed to see the concept - as you do - that the actual value is in the cost of replacing them.
