How to price fixtures & fittings

We are moving house & would like to offer our buyer the chance to buy curtains & some appliances (cooker, dishwasher, washing machine) - they are moving from rented property so may well need them). But how do I price them? If possible we'd like to get some money for them but don't want them to be so expensive that they'd decide not to have them.

Appliances, I know I can look around for second hand values. But curtains? All made to measure for our unusual sized windows but probably have no second hand value. £10/£20 a pair?

I would say £200 the lot for goodwill - it will oil the wheels nicely during the house sale

Sorry but if I was your buyer and you wanted £10 for a pair of curtains, I'd tell you to take them with you! It sounds incredibly penny pinching considering the sums involved in house buying. Are the appliances integrated? If so I would assume they were accounted for in the price also.

Thanks, jimbog, maybe that's the best approach. The windows are huge, 3m wide, which is why we had the curtains made to measure. I'd love to pick up curtains for our new place at £10/pair! No, none of the appliances are integrated which is why they're not included in the sale price already.

I personally wouldn't buy curtains off someone either. And as for the appliances it would depend on their age and condition but I wouldn't say more than £50 per appliance.

if the curtains are made to measure and of no use to you or anyone else in another house (likely if they are so bespoke), why not leave those as a gesture of good will, which may make them more likely agree to buy your appliances. Doesn't look as much like you're picking over every penny then.

As curtains perhaps but 3m of fabric might be useful if she stays with the colour scheme!
  • I'd suggest the same thing as jimbog here, figure out a price which you feel will satisfy you, but wont put your buyers in an uncomfortable position and go with it. 200 pounds sounds reasonable, but I'd be ready to part with less if it comes to it.

Why can't you just leave the stuff for them and throw it in as part of the sale?

Are you really so strapped for cash that you need £10-20 for a pair of curtains that won't fit anywhere else?
