Has it ever occurred to you that perhaps your buyers didn’t get replacement curtains and blinds for 6 months because they had no money. Has it ever occurred to you that perhaps they didn’t pay £500 for your curtains and blinds because they had no money. It might not be any sort of master mind negotiation tactic just a simple choice for them between buying a bed to sleep in or buying your curtains.

Nobody can dispute that the stuff was yours to take but to smash it up and leave it just demonstrates what a spiteful and vindictive little scroat you are.

The Germans have a word for people who enjoy other people’s suffering. Actually so do we. I can’t type it on here but it rhymes with shunt.

Again, you jump to far too many conclusions. Money was not an issue at all.

It was simply that they wanted them for free because they were of no use to me anymore. Warped logic.

If you had an Aston Martin and were told you couldn't drive anymore, would you just give it away? No, you'd sell it.

The trouble was, these curtains were only good for this flat. So I couldn't really sell them to anyone else. The buyer thought they had me over a barrell. But the truth was, although they would have only been of use to them - if they bought their own, it would cost a lot of money. They wanted it for free.

So, I showed them that you can't get what you want for free - so instead of paying 25% of the cost to have curtains fitted, they paid the full 100%. Seems silly to me.

My choice was smash them or have let them have them for nothing. That wasn't happening.

Maybe they would have liked my car as well?

These people got what they deserved.

And if the first person you offered it to declined, you'd then take an angle grinder to it?

I would if they were the ONLY person who could buy it, but wanted it for nothing. Let them go to the shop and buy another Aston Martin for £150,000 if they don't want the one you're offering for £40,000.

I removed them all and smashed them to smitherines and left them in a small pile by each window.
    ......
Still makes me laugh. One of the best afternoons I ever had, smashing those blinds.

The saddest post I've ever read on these forum.

Our vendors are moving to sheltered accommodation, they mentioned at the viewings they may be able to leave some items, which also allowed us to look at them - if they hadn't we probably would have turned them down because we might have got other items by the time we'd have found out. We offered them £200 for their table with 4 chairs, large cupboard that was in dining room and their large wardrobe. We've also asked they leaver the cooker if possible (it's really old and they admit not up to much but will keep us going until we get a new one) and they have also now offered the fridge freezer and washing machine if they get a property which have them all ready. Not bad really for £200, as long as they're priced decently then it doesn't hurt to ask. Or do what our vendors did, ask us what we wanted and what we'd pay for them!

Given that The_White_Horse can't even keep it consistent whether it was blinds or curtains that he/she smashed (how do you smash curtains anyway?), perhaps we should take the story with a sizeable pinch of salt.
  • When I moved last year, I left all the curtains, the lawn mower and wardrobes. I asked the buyer if they wanted them ( FTB, was very grateful) and I certainly never asked for any money for them. I could have reused the curtains but I thought I would probably want to buy nice new ones anyway.

The vendor of the property I bought asked if I wanted to buy the curtains, blinds and shed. I said no (I was going to buy new ones anyway). Whilst the shed would have been useful, I was already bringing one with me.

On the day I moved in, they were all there anyway. Shed was useful, but I had replaced all of the curtains within a week.

My previous property, vendors asked if I wanted to buy bedroom furniture - I said no, I had my own, please take it with you. Moved in and they had left it anyway. Very annoying as I had to dismantle it and get rid of it all.

To be honest, when I move house, I expect to decorate etc and put my own stamp on it and don't really want the previous owners stuff (however neutral). In the year I've been in I've completely gutted 3 rooms, decorated 2 rooms and replaced every single carpet. I always refuse to pay for anything vendors offer and tell them to take it with them. Saves me having to take them down/remove.

The vendor gave me the curtains and shed for free. Their washing machine is Borch and sold it to me for £50 but I did not take it as I don't like to use second hand washing machine. He also sold me the garden furniture for £10 (a metal table and 2 metal chair), which I found it as a bargain as I found similar on the internet for £120.

If they are no use to you, why not give it for free? Or part of the item for free and some more valuable item for a reasonable price? The hassle you need to move or sell it somewhere else may cost you more.

i still think most of you don't get it. I spent £2k on the curtains. They were approx 1 yr old. For the new people to buy their own, would cost approx the same - they may have got cheaper ones somewhere - but as I say, odd shaped large windows.

They wanted them, they just wanted them for free. They were very irritating people. Why should I give them this for free? I don't understand? would you give them your brand new £2k tv for free or your car for free or anything else that was valuable? Of course not.

I wouldn't charge them for some old Ikea chest of drawers or some old couch. But the curtains were a big old expense - and for them to do it would cost them £2k. So, I offered them the curtains for a cut down price - £500 or so. They said "leave them for free". I don't think so.

As I said, they had no curtains for months and months. Perhaps they thought I was making up the price.

All I know is, they left me with two choices - give them the curtains for nothing (which I wouldn't do, because they were irritating and smarmy) - if I liked them, I may well have left them. Or smash them up. I didn't want them to have them. I didn't need them - the blinds - slated blinds. There were also curtains - I saved some of that material.

Anyway. The point is, those people could have had fitted curtains for £500 and instead they paid in excess of £2k. So, who lost out. I was never going to get anything back for them. No ebay etc in those days. Too much hassle to do anything else.

    Somebody doesn't get it. I don't think it's us.

What you seem not to understand is that we do all "get" your point of view. We think it shallow, vindictive and petty, but - yes, we "get" it.
