Plusnet REIN Problems

Sparx- the line IS sometimes a little crackly, but disappears after a second or so and is not constant. I will speak to PN and get them to upgrade me ADSL 2 and see what they say. I'm getting 5.45 mbps at the moment on a wireless connection with an upload speed of 0.39mbps - all the engneers say that the max speed is around 13mbps - so i don't know why my speed is low. What can effect the noise that you are seeing from the stats?0
-
Sparx the downstream noise margin is down to 15 what should it be?0
-
Just to point out their is nothing wrong with your noise margin. The bigger the number the less noise present on the line.
Noise margin is inversely proportional to line speed, the lower the noise margin number the faster the line speed.
A bb router will try to optimise at the fastest speed at an optimum noise margin, this is normally around 7db.
Get on the plusnet and see what they say. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Simple question, what router are you using? My sister with PlusNet (in an ADSL only area where are you BTW) had endless problems with connection dropping and slow speeds and got different (recommended) routers swapped out, line tested etc. Went on for 6 months then she saw the tv ads about Sky (I think) supplying routers which worked at the top of a lighthouse. So she asked PlusNet to send her their latest powerful router and !!! it solved everything. Yes other routers should have worked but for some reason they did not. PM me if you want more info.0

I've been using the Thompson one since we switched years ago, but since the problem started i've switched to a netgear DG834g v 3 one as i think there could be problems with the Thompson ones. I am down in Cornwall TR14 post code.0

My sister found that once she got PlusNet to send her their own brand router, the one with a more powerful signal for tall houses (Go figure) her connection worked fine again. No idea why, line had been very slow and unreliable, dropping connection all the time as well, for months with a netgear router. That was replaced with a new netgear and then with some other well known brand, and BT rewired phone line into house and she had at least three separate consultants to look at it and everyone was unable to solve it. Then as I said, she saw that Michael Caine Sky advert where he was asking about broadband reception at the top of a lighthouse, and they were recommending their more powerful router and she decided on one last try so she phoned Plusnet and asked them to send her their equivalent and it fixed the problem. (She has an ADSL connection, no BT infinity in her area).0

A second of crackle is all you need to drop the connection - I don't think you have a REIN issue, and I used to be a REIN engineer at an ISP.0
