Plusnet REIN Problems

Anyone any experience of REIN problems? I've been having problems with my PN BB for several months & someone has suggested a REIN problem.I understand that this radio/electrical interference can cause problems but I've tried everything -switching off all sockets, removing telephones etc - no difference. Plusnet have been useless -I've seen 5 engineers, 1 missed appointment, and a REIN engineer who was supposed to visit, now yet another OR engineer is scheduled to visit and carry out the same tests. What can I do to eliminate the prospect of REIN or SHINE interference?

REIN is external interference caused by someone's electrical gadget which is malfunctioning or even a cheapy Chinese tat with insufficient RF suppression in it.
It is pumping out RF interference on the frequencies used by ADSL. This is being pciked up by your phone line and causing your problems.
It is not really a problem of BT's or plusnet making nor can they do much about it as neither have legal "cease and desist powers" to be served on the owner of the interfering item.
Finding REIN is extremely time consuming it might be and probably is a neighbouring house or one further away. It might be partially mains borne as well as pure RF.0 -
Is the router plugged int your master socket, have you removed the bell wire from any extensions?
What do your line stats look like?
Are you using wireless, monitor interferring channels with inSSIDer?That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Hi have plugged the router into the master socket, changed the router, filters, removed the remote phone, installed an old phone, replaced the master socket, removed the bell wire etc, etc. Plusnet are not even sure that it IS a REIN problem - it just that I keep having problems with the connection dropping and no one seems able to sort it. I think they are grasping at straws. I don't know how to get the stats, penryn, but I am using wireless.0

Anyone tell me how to post the stats?0

Google router line ststistics along with the make and model of your router.
Its usuallly just a case of logging into it.

And you need to test using ethernet, not wireless-this rules out wireless issues, which is the first thing you need to test for.
Have you ruled out duff ADSL filters and wireless channel interference?
Plusnet don't have any engineers-all the ones you've seen will have been from OR.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
OR engineer turned up this am without warning to test the line. This is number 6 I think! Anyway, nice bloke -turns out he's the OR REIN engineer. He had 2 hours training yesterday and this was his first REIN job. He didn't have any equipment - sorry, he did - his supervisor had gone to Argos and purchased a radio for him to use. As it wasn't a digital one it was of very little use!! Couldn't make it up, could you. Anyway, he decided that there was no way it was a REIN problem and went back to the exchange to carry out some tests. Upshot: no problems at exchange. Ergo after 3 months we are no further forward with the problem. Good thing is the connection seems stable at the moment. Keep you posted.0

You are showing your ignorance - a digital radio would be of no use whatsoever!
Why have you still not posted your routers line stats? You were asked for those months ago when this saga started. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
OP does not appear to want to help himself. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

As others have said
An old fashioned analog style radio tuned to the relevant frequency is indeed by far the best way of detecting REIN.
You walk round with it turning it round, the internal ferrite rod antenna will pick up the RFI as it is turned and will blast it out as various noise on the loudspeaker. By noting where the max is you can deduce where the source is. Find two separate points to trace the RFI, and start a triangulation process to deduce which house it is coming from.
(No I really have not got the time to write a full instructions on precisely how to do all of this and what frequencies to use on the radio)0
