When I said " a digital radio" - I did not realise what I'd written!! What I actually meant to say was an analogue radio with digital tuning. Anyway, the upshot of all this is that there is NO REIN problem. Plusnet have suggested that I go for Fibre BB, but as things stand at the moment, the connection seems stable, so I wont be paying £20 quid odd for something I don't need. Not sure what your problem is penrhyn? "OP does not appear to want to help himself" - we not all as savvy as you are. If I knew how to get the router stats, espresso, I would have posted them straight away!!!

What broadband package are you on with PN at the moment?

Also what's your postcode? Just so I can check what exchange you are connected to and what services should be available to you.

You are on an ADSL profile currently, hence the low upload and 6.6Mb down sync with a line attenuation of 28 dB..

Your noise margin is far too high @ 17 dB, which does imply you have some kind of interference.

When you say you had a new master socket fitted, does it look like this? The new BT Mk2 VDSL pre-filtered faceplate.

A 28 db line should be capable of in excess of 16 Mbps on ADSL2.
As above what package are you on?. Its possible you have been capped 17db is far to high, the modem should optimise around 7db noise margin.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

I'm on PN's unlimited BB and the new box is as you've shown. I'm in TR14 and I'm about 1k from the exchange as the crow flies maybe less. As all the 6 engineers have tested the line and come up with different solutions - I am stumped. The ONLY thing that I can think might have effected it is that last week OR visited my neighbour's to install a new line and removed an existing pole at the edge of the property together with a huge quantity of loose and hanging cables which were trailing and going in to some sort of large shed. It does seem that since then the connection has been pretty stable. Any thoughts?

Just done a speed test(wireless) and I'm getting 5.60 mbps download and 0.38 upload - which isn't too bad for me. I was getting less than 0.5 mbps a while ago. if the line stays stable then I think all will be ok.

    ADSL Link............Downstream...................Upstream

    Connection Speed........6651 kbps........................445 kbps

    Line Attenuation..............28 db.............................7 db

    Noise Margin...................17 db.............................25 db

Your speed is way down on what it should be.
Its possible that your ISP has capped the speed to cope with your instability.
However since tthat appears to be wireless related thsi was a mistake the need to up the rate on the line.
Assuming ADSL2+ you should be getting between 14 and 16Mbps.

For reference this is what I currently get with a 44db line.

    Broadband Link............ Downstream.................. Upstream
    Connection Speed...........10078 kbps...................1023 kbps
    Line Attenuation...............44.0 dB..........................25.9 dB
    Noise Margin......................6.6 dB............................7.7 dB

According to all the engineers the max speed here is about 13mbps - so a usable speed of about 12.5, they reckon. I'm not sure what ADSL2 is - how would I know if I have it?

6.6Mbps/445kbps is what I would have been happy to get when I was on Tiscali Max (Up to 8Mbps), an ADSL (not ADSL2+) product. I typically got 5Mbps on ADSL, and now 13Mbps on ADSL2+.

How does the phone line sound using a regular phone?

If the sound quality is alright, with no crackles, then there's not much wrong with the line physically, from exchange to master socket. If there were RF interference, there is the possibility that a neighbour is on holiday and switched it off.

Your current speeds are about right if your line was only capable of ADSL (up to 8Mb). It does seem your line is configured this way currently, hence your upload not exceeding 448kbps. However by the looks of things your line is capable of ADSL2+ (up to 24Mbps) so should be profiled as such.

Contact Plusnet Technical Support and advise that your line seems to be profiled on an old ADSL (up to 8Mb) profile when it should be on ADSL2+ (up to 24Mb). They may fix this over the phone if their own automated system has profiled your line incorrectly, if not they will have to escalate to Openreach to investigate.

If they do this (correctly) you should hopefully see your downstream sync rate increase from circa 6,600 kbps to approx 12,000 kbps judging by what you've already mentioned.

My only concern is your downstream noise margin is high (17 dB) which means you may have some form of interference still.

Is your phone line on calls noisy or crackly at all?
